puck on 03

Post by nutzio »

Hi, new here, I just received my puck in the mail (bought used real good deal), and now wondering if I should even mount it. I am saving for future tranny mods and don't have the coin to get my smarty now so I will be running just the puck. I read some different forums that just the puck is really un-noticeable on otherwise stock trucks like mine. I have a 03 SO 250hp auto AFE stg 2 and mbrp straight 4" exhaust, should I just mothball it for later, or is it worth it to stress the tranny now?

The puck wont stress the tranny as long as you dont beat on it all day...

puck

Thanks for the info, well, I installed it, and all I can say is WOW! I think those people who speak negative of the puck need to drive my truck. The 50hp setting is a little hard to feel but once the boost builds you know it is there...The 90hp rocks! I traveled 258 miles today roundtrip for a site walk/bid meeting and grinned everytime I merged on the highway, to bad it is Memorial day weekeend and every trooper in the state is out there

Now get the predator to go with it. You will only have to save 1/2 as long and be twice as happy. These tools are certainly what these trucks need to make them a joy to drive.

Predator

Post by nutzio »

Yes, I have pm'd a few people selling their predators on various sites, I don't know if they sell real quick or what? no luck getting one yet, why pay $370 for a new one when a good used one is going $200-$250.

you are right about the Predator vs. the Smarty especially for my 03 SO cummins, the more I read and learn the more I'd rather put the $400+ dollars I save on a smarty into a valve body

ok I found a predator and when I goto the power puck tunes on the menu I press enter and the only stacker tune it offers me is the tow stacker, I checked the instructions onsite here and don't know what I am doing wrong.

right now I am running the performance econ tune w the puck off because it isn't the stacker performance econ tune, please help

You can download the stacker tunes from the sticky here at the top of the forum...

ok, thank you for the quick response. I am still confused, I wonder why the previous owner removed the performance econ stacker tune and the extreme stacker tune? or were they not included when it was new?

on my 03 would I damage it if I flipped my puck on while in the perf/econ tune and not in perf/econ stacker tune?

A wise man ( duallydave) told me to if you run the puck load the stacker tunes and you can turn the puck on and off as you want, the stacker tunes use less rail pressure than the reg. tunes so you are able to stack them with out really doing some damage, i was on reg. tunes and flipping the puck on and off and i had to replace the #3 injector, the reg. tunes run higher pressures already, plus ur injectors will be happier longer. i hope this is correct, and i didnt screw up the info that was passed on to me.

sorry for all the questions but I am really very new to all this and a self proclaimed "not the brightest bulb on the tree" but what programs would be good to down load for my 03 SO with the mods stated in the first post??? + I will have a new torque converter and valve body next month. I use my truck daily for work mostly runnin empty to Job sites tow a bobcat or a 10,000 psi waterblaster (<8,000lbs).....It seems my truck likes the programmer, no cel lights, no pops, just not the smoke i would expect on extreme from what i have heard, maybe I need a FASS or AIRdog? Thanks for all info

The extreme stacker is what I run, ok mpg's but hella power, i would load the tow stacker for pulling you equipment, I have a 18' hd pipe trailer(tounge pull) with a new Holland 850 skid steer and on tow stacker i can still get the tires break loose on the launch from light to light, but ur not getting much smoke, i am running a straight pipe and tow mode makes alot smoke... and for $70.00 i would look at getting a quadzilla boost fooler that may make the differance. just my $.02... I am still new to all this stuff also, there are way more educated people in here to help us out.

I used to run the straight tow tune all the time, with the puc on 90hp pulling 14000lbs. The truck ran great, more power then the stacker tune....

according to my programmer display if I press enter on the "power puck tunes" the only one that comes up is the "tow stacker".. going to try to reach the original owner over the phone and see if he can give me any info.as to what happened to the perf/econ stacker and extreme stacker...I should have known better than to buy used electronics...
