Transmission modes?

Post by Xavier »

I'm new to the Predator, had it less than a week, so it is obviously using the latest update. So far it seems to have really changed the attitude of my car. One question I had is what is the difference in the transmission modes? There are 4 modes; Stock, mode 1, 2, and 3.

Also, the only problem I've encountered so far was after disabling ESP it seemed to work as intended but the BRAKE dash light was also lit and after a quick spin of the tires the car went into a limp mode of sorts where it was rev limited really low. Couldn't shift out of first and would only go to like 3,000 RPM. Also would not go into AutoStick, why would this happen?

as far as turning off esp with predator, don't. It will make your car go into limp mode, it is only there for going to the dyno. The trans. modes are not differant, they are there to accomplish one thing and that is to disable auto upshift while in autostick. Either , mode 1 works to that end or it doesn't, than try mode 2 if that doesn't work than move onto 3.

Why would Diablo put a feature that we need like NO-ESP in the Predator just to tell us that it doesn't work and don't use it??? That makes little to no sense. The same thing that happened to Xavier happened to me, and the response didn't really answer any questions. Or are these unreasonable questions?

First I think it's sort of like a work in progress. They're also sort of homing in on what to put in there and what's supportable. I think in very early releases they allowed you to disable the knock sensors. I suppose the idea was for people who had false knock. Like from aftermarket valve springs for example. So then a few people blew up their motors by turning the knock sensors turned off. So Diablo decided they should probably take that option out. Too dangerous for the uninformed. I think there is/was some issue with our cars on the dyno and ESP. I believe the option was there for use on a dyno (only).

Why do you think that a NO-ESP feature is something you need? Can't you use the button on the dash? I believe the NO-ESP feature on the Predator will disable your ABS where the dash button will not. There is no reason you want abs disabled while driving the car.

I see it as a sort of balancing act for Diablo. They want to sell the tuner to the general public but if they make it safe enough to sell at Kmart it's not going to be very useful.

Nobody said it does not work, it works perfectly, but is not best for street use.
Best reserved for dyno or straight line use...

Mike, How about a couple of sentences on ESP in the context of the canned tunes? (I've got an '06 SRT8 if it makes a difference)

I am under the impression that ESP is disabled to some extent in the canned tunes (NOT the disable option in modify parameters). Something like pushing the dash button once?

My understanding of the Stock ESP settings (using the ESP button on the dash):
* Fully enabled
* Partially disabled (single press and release) - Straight line traction control turned off. Lateral/directional control relaxed -- both threshold of intervention and degree of intervention.
* Fully disabled (press and hold) - Straight line traction control turned off. Lateral/directional control turned off. ABS on.

My understanding of the Predator 'disable ESP' option is that everything is turned off including ABS.

What is the state of ESP set to in the canned DiabloSport tunes straight out of the box?

I use it at the track, but it seems to not to like staying engaged. The car kicks it out, Autostick refuses to work, and things get weird. After another tune-load, all is well again. Whatever...

My ESP will not stay off either... I am a fairly experienced driver and don't like to have HAL take over... Some situations it may be safer for Hal to take over but not always...

What kind of car do you have? On the LX SRT8's if you press and hold the button all esp is disabled with the exception of ABS. I can't imagine any reason to turn off ABS while driving.

I had the exact same thing happen to me tonight at the track! I took off my factory 20s and mounted some 245/40/18 drag radials on the rear(I didn't have the TPMS Sensors on the race wheels so the light was on and flashing), I also put some 225/40/18s on the front. I turned off the ESP and raised the shift firmness. My First pass was perfect!! On my second pass my brake light turned on and it felt like the e-brake was on. I couldn't even do a burn out.
I slowly ran the car down the track and it wouldn't even go past 3000rpm and I couldn't shift it manually.
I parked the car and reset the tcm, the issue went away. I then drove up to the line and same issue all over.
I was so pissed and scared so I loaded the stock tune and went down the track with no issues. Of course I couldn't do a burn out, just a straight pass.

I drove it home with no issues.

I need HELP guys!!!
I drive a 2008 R/T with R/T, Flowmaster exhaust, 170* T-stat, K&N CAI, 91 octane. I was running the 91CAE tune with shift firmness and ESP OFF.
I didn't have these issues before and the issue clearly follows the tune. If you guys aren't geared for the 08s let us know, we'll wait for a fix! I know the raised shift points on the 08s has issues and you guys haven't posted a TSB to warn us not to us it!
I truly respect and understand how hectic it must be to crack these cars but if several people are having the same issues, I think you need to dedicate some time to try and resolve this issue.

Thanks
Joe

Don't turn ESP off. You went into limp mode. It's described in your car's owner manual. By the way, I don't think you had to reset the TCM to bring it out of it. Turning the car off and restarting it should have done it.

Goin into limp mode with ESP disabled with the predator seems to be very common. Naturally you only hear from those who have problems but I haven't heard anyone say they run around all the time with ESP disabled with the predator with no problems.

The Diablo tunes already have torque management reduced. You should be able to spin the tires enough to ruin your 1/4 mile without disabling ESP? What are you gaining by disabling ESP?

On the 08 you can't do a burn out to warm up the D/Rs without the ESP disable. That's why!

Do you really have to respond to everyones post? You are not an employee of Diablo Sport and you probably don't have any formal training on the tuner other that playing around with yours. Please let the Professionals respond and keep you suggestions to yourself. There are plenty of LX forums for you to share your recomendations on. I come here for help from the pros ONLY!!!
