Going back to 91 octane tune from custom tune

Post by chandler51 »

Thsi is probably a simple Q&A but...

How do I install the 91 octane tune with the DoD engaged if I have a custom tune already installed? I want to
a) buy a little cheaper fuel
b) see what if any mpg difference there might be
I have the U7191and an 06 monte carlo SS with the 5.3 Chevy LS.

Right now with the custom tune it is a friggin' rocket ship...especially after about 60 mph...but it sucks fuel like one too! Was getting about 18mpg average pre-tune, am getting 12-15 now. Any suggestions?

Yeah I tried that...had to vacuum out a pile of red dust a couple days later.

Here's what I would do (assumes you have the PC interface kit).

1) With the custom tune in the vehicle, go to Options-->Troubleshooting ... and find the Read Extra Tune functionality. It will copy the tune currently in the vehicle and "store it to the predator" for retrieval.

2) Once done, download the custom tune from your predator to your computer and save it (via the E40 PCInterface Installer) . I think it is the "export tune" functionality at that point in the troubleshooting menu that will export it out of the tool to your PC.

3) Back to your vehicle and "Restore" your factory tune.

4) You now have a fresh, unlocked predator and the factory tune in your vehicle. (Follow all prompts... .start your vehicle when asked, etc., etc..)

5) Plug in again, and install the Diablo (91) tune.

If you want to re-add the custom tune at some point (you saved it to your pooter above), read it into your predator as an extra tune (e40 software again), then you can plug into your vehicle and push the custom tune to your car.

Cheers !
