RE: new u1798 w/ disc and no computer connection under optio
The small disk contains drivers for the PC interface cable. When you connect up your predator to the PC for the first time, the OS should recognize the new "hardware" and will execute the new hardware wizard. As you work your way thru the new hardware wizard, at some point you will be asked about drivers. It will want to know if Windows should identify the drivers on its own, or whether you HAVE them (which you do --- the small CD)
Insert the small CD in your CD Drive, point the wizard to the CD, and it should install the necessary drivers so that your PC can communicate with the Predator, from a hardware perspective.
You will still need the Dataviewer Software, and possibly the E40 interface software, both of whuch are available from this site via download. Hope this helps.

CD? I received NO cd with my 7198 (9r02).
This is now becoming absurd.
I've NO documentation WHATSOEVER telling me how to communicate with my computer. The docs I see on your website do NOT correspond with the predator I have.
Just what hoops do I have to jump through to UPLOAD a log to my computer?

RE: new u1798 w/ disc and no computer connection under optio
I do know that certain older tool models have undergone upgrades (VERY recently) such that those newer versions can, indeed, take logs, and allow for the logs to be uploaded and anlyzed on the pooter (that's what DSLogRedux was written to assist folks to do). I do know that (at least) the U7192/93/95/98 have been upgraded lately to the so-called Class 2 standard, which allows logging and connecting to the PC.
The models referred to above that were sold prior to the class 2 update can NOT do this, if I am not mistaken.
I hope I have this right. It is correct to my knowledge. I am sure one of the DS folks can give you the last details of this, but I believe what I have written is accurate.

Hang on a minute.
I received this product from a dealer on MONDAY. That was YESTERDAY.
Now it's coming out that 'maybe' I cannot USE this tool for what it was PURCHASED for?
I have, and support, DSLogRedux which I find to be a DANDY piece and I thank you for it. It is of no value to me if I cannot upload logs to my puter.
N'est ce pas?

if your 7198 is on a revision 9rXX number, then yes - you can log.
If ANY U7192/93/95/98 tool is on a 9rXX revision, they can log...
if they are on a 1.xx or 2.xx revision, then those are still the older model tools and can not log.

I've read that I can 'log' and I understand that.
The PROBLEM is getting that log up to my computer.

do you have the serial or usb cable? sounds like you have the usb cable...
and what do you mean you received no CD?
you said in your first post, and I quote:
"I recieved a small disc. with my u1798 with drivers on it."
but then, you're telling GrumpyAeroGuy:
"CD? I received NO cd with my 7198 (9r02)."
so now I'M asking you, what cable did you get with your predator?? did you order the serial cable, or the USB cable??!!

Man, no need to get upset, there are plenty of people here that will happily answer ANY questions you have, all you have to do is ask it.jdeatsch wrote:I've read that I can 'log' and I understand that.

Uploading a log could not be easier, once you connect the Pred to the PC and open the dataviewer, it basically does everything for you, it is a great, intuitive, easy to use piece of software.

Unless you've been promised TCM support for nearly 2 years...then by all means feel free to get upset...mikel wrote:Man, no need to get upset...

Monte,
It was not me who said he got the CD. That was the op.
I didn't receive a cd because I got the serial, 9 pin, antiquated cable.
As for you two, Mike and John. I CALLED your 'support line' and was basically laughed at. Great way to instill confidence in your product.
Mike, show me in your customer documentation that you send with the product where it tells me to open dataviewer and it will connect automatically to the tool.
Your documentation is a JOKE. I've seen better docs in a Cracker Jax box.
"OBD II Diagnostic Port Location" heading in your absurd 'user manual' says NOTHING about the OBD II port location OR the port itself.
Shame on you for continuing to send such an absurd booklet with an almost $400 product. Shame on you.
I didn't get upset in the least. I've posted EVERYWHERE trying to resolve the issue with YOUR PRODUCT. Your instructions do NOT MATCH THE PRODUCT. The 'Predator User Manual' says nothing about how to upload a log to my computer. Why is that?
I had to use the instructions from ANOTHER person, NOT affiliated with your company, to resolve the issues.
What I received from YOU people was a notice that a NEW product would rectify issues with the 7198 that I JUST BOUGHT TWO DAYS AGO.
Upset? Yep, NOW I am.
Your business model sucks. I love your product. You're like Saturn. You make a great product but your support people haven't a CLUE how to talk to customers. Your promises to the folks who want TCM support is a JOKE.
Nuff said.

You don't get a CD with you Predator. It comes with the data cable. Its is a driver disk so the the computer and the cable can talk to each other.
No reason to get excited about not getting something that you weren't supposed to get anyway. As far as posting everywhere, once will do.
The company you purchased your Predator from must have had old stock. This wouldn't be Diablo's fault, that would be the retailer that you bought it from. They obviously had too much stock and weren't concerned about having new stock available for you the customer. I wouldn't be mad at Diablo for a retailers mistakes or lack of customer service.
So I would say, continuing to flame the company that is trying to support you, wouldn't be a good idea. Sit back, relax, breathe and ask your questions. We'll try to help you out as best we can.

The DataViewer has a "Help" button that opens a help system. Within that system are instructions on how to connect to the tool, as well as information about the OBDII port and how to find it.jdeatsch wrote: Mike, show me in your customer documentation that you send with the product where it tells me to open dataviewer and it will connect automatically to the tool.
