Even YOUR software won't recognize the new 7198 I just bought.

Why are we STILL using 9pin serial in 2008?

This just doesn't work.

It's 9r02.

I've followed every 'version' of your instructions I can find.

From your description I am guessing that you are using a USB-to-Serial cable and do you not have the drivers installed correctly. See THIS FAQ for more information on cables and drivers.

Trinity will have USB instead of serial. That is our next generation product that will be released some time this year.

I am using serial 9 pin as was supplied, NOT usb adapter.

I finally got it to work by playing, setting to 57k baud.

When I first got my U7198 with the Version 9R02 , I could not communicate using a DB9 cable. I got a USB Serial Cable from RadioShack and that worked for me. After you get the USB Serial Cable you may want to update your tool to 9R05.
