Diablo Question
Diablo Question
I was wondering if I could use any old diablosport predator from previous years (lets say 03 or 05) to download 07 stang tunes from Bamachips to tune a 2007 stang. I know that any old SCT device can do this, but what about Diablo? I'm not worried about the tunes that come with the predator, I just want to download one good custom tune.
RE: Diablo Question
nope....
different hardware/software files because the PCM's are totally different... only specific predators will work with specific models/years of vehicles... and, they will only accept diablo custom tune files anyway... it won't work.
you'd need to buy a predator that is made for the 07 mustang... which is a U7145

RE: Diablo Question
are you sure? because SCT can easily tune multiple ford vehicles. If they can do it, diablo can do it. If Diablo were smart, which I hope they are, would try to pass there tuner devices as investments rather than one time deals...
RE: Diablo Question
yup, I'm sure/positive... see that link I posted above?? that model predator will ONLY work for those model cars/years listed... it will not tune any other ford vehicles or different model years of those cars that are not in that list. i.e. it will not work for a 2006 mustang gt - you'd have to get the specific model predator for the 2006's...
that's why they make different model predators... because they will only work with specific models/years of vehicles.

RE: Diablo Question
thats pretty retarded. I'd rather spend more money on a device I can use again when I upgrade/buy a new car...
RE: Diablo Question
Some of us don't plan on swapping vehicles every year or two. Usually, people buy a Predator as a first mod, as each successive mod will require a tuner of some sort to modify the computer parameters. Usually, people that modify vehicles don't get rid of them as quickly.
If you think the concept of the Predator is "retarded", that's fine... that's your opinion. However, for every one person who doesn't like the Predator... there are hundreds who do. If you don't like the Predator, then go with whatever tuner you see fit to use.
The Predator is most likely vehicle specific to cut down on costs. If they made it able to talk and program ANY vehicle, you would likely be carrying around a laptop instead of a small handheld. Then you might as well go with HP tuners or EFI Live.... at a substantial price increase!

RE: Diablo Question
Not to mention the Predator is far more capable then the SCT. The two can't even be compared. Its like comparing champagne and toilet water.
RE: Diablo Question
how so? I'm listening... Let's see you try to sell me. From what I understand, and I'm brand spakin new to all of this, getting a custom tune from a vendor is MUCH better because they write the tune according to all the mods on your car.
Sure the predator looks nicer and looks easier to use, but don't ever forget the goal... To tune the car.

RE: Diablo Question
Any by the way SCT's and Prederators are about the same damn price. Lets say I buy a 2011 Mustang years from now... Even if I sell my 2007 car with the tune still in it, I only have to pay $75-$100 to get my SCT device reset. I then buy a $50-$100 custom tunes from a good vendor for my new 2011. Much better than buying a brand new tuner for my new vehicle wouldn't you say?
Don't make assumptions on why Diablo tunes only certain vehicles, their goal is to drive revenue. But they can only get away with that for so long as consumers get smarter and the economy worsens, if they don't change to be like SCT, they will go out of business.

RE: Diablo Question
Every company is out to make revenue. That is the whole idea. Just because one company has a different scheme doesn't mean it doesn't work.
With a PCM tune, you usually have to send your PCM to a shop to be tuned. If you change an item (for example, you go with a different cam or injectors), you have to send the PCM back to the tuner to be redone.
With the Predator and other handheld tuners, you can change the tune in your driveway.
I haven't looked (nor heard of) an SCT. When I bought my Predator, I looked at HP Tuners, EFI Live, Superchips, and Hypertech. The Predator had all the options I wanted, and their program had the most removal of Torque Management. I also went with Diablosport on the recommendation of a couple of friends who have them.
Since I have had my Predator, I have had no problems with it. When I had questions, I was able to post them here and my question was resolved fairly quickly.
As I see it, the SCT device (for GM mind you) does NOT show you any kind of real time date (like Fuel Trims, O2 readings, Knock Retard, etc etc), nor does it allow you to adjust settings. It is a simple flash device, that lets you manage tunes that you get from SCT or one of their tuners. They do plan to release a update that will let you monitor PID and DMR data, and when they release their dealer software, dealers will be able to create tunes that can have some adjustable settings. The Predator is like this out of the box. You can monitor data, and adjust your parameters.
This information was drawn from their website, and from the X Calibrator 2 Manual.

RE: Diablo Question
Many Predators have different chip sets in them, especially when you start looking back at older revisions. Switching between vehicle types is not just a matter of software and configuration.
