DATA LOG
Hi guys, I borrowed a friends Pred u7146 since mine isn't working due to out of mem probs, I captured a log from my car with the perf tune and a few parameter adjustments. Can you tell me if it appears to be tuned correctly? I have pretty much a stock engine with a BBK CAI. I am running 3pts advance spk Low/High and adjusted fuel to .50 rich L/H. I am running race gas that I mixed with a formula I aquired. Approx 98 octane fuel. Car seems to be running great, just want to have LOG looked at to check.

RE: DATA LOG
I just tried opening it using my viewer and i cant for some reason. I have a stock 04 with a bbk cai and I am running 10% timing advanced and running 93 octane and i have no pinging what-so-ever and it runs hard. without looking at the file I would suggest advancing your timing the whole 10% from 1-4k and 4-7k... will deff. be fine considering your running 98 octane.... with that being said I wouldnt run more the 93.. only because I have seen on threads on the site that if your running lower octane then 91 lower it 1 degree for every point of octane lower then the required 91. Just my 2 cents... I will try to load the file for you and look at it but ive been trying and cant for some reason... any recommendations to how rich.lean i should put my tune at with only bbk cai and running 93 octane??? hope this helps... let me know

As far as CAI intakes, if you pull in more air you should be able to run a bit richer than stock, to do this you need to know how much air you are getting and useing air/gas/octane mixture formulations that are tabulated by engine makers such as Ford...etc. You need to search for those.....I am an old school car guy, carbs and intakes, dwell meters and timing lights! I also used to use the old trusty screwdriver to listen for knocking when playing with timing. Timing is a set figure based on TDC, you don't want plugs to fire before MAX gas/air/volumn is acheived nor do you want it after, this is where knock or pre detonation occurs. You want it where it's perfect. On newer cars this is where the dyno comes into play. On older non computer engines this is where experience comes to play. I am no official on computer controlled vehicles, this is where I would seek out a dyno if you want to get the most out of the motor. I have only made slight parameter adjustments untill I put it on a dyno. I am also waiting for DS Pred to get live data viewer working, I'll run while viewing the old laptop to get the results I seek and do it while vehicle is under load just like a dyno tune. I don't want to forget to mention the more air in you have does little good if you don't have the exhaust to get it out! I own an 04 Stang with SOHC 4.6, BBK CAI all stock other than the CAI. I do know you can get a bit more out of this engine without mods but not much. If you have installed the U7146 Performance tune it should be as good as it gets without mods, with mods you now can play with the tune to get more based on mods. mentioned above. I have only read about maxing out timing with tuner a full 10% in a Hot Rod magizine article. I imagine it will work but as a rule, higher timing, higher Octane, not opposite not to forget more air in air out allows for a richer gas air mix.
Thanks for looking at my log, I did a run on that log, I think it's just around middle of log, starting at zero MPH to aroung 88MPH.

RE: DATA LOG
as far as I can tell it looks ok to me. no harm being done. If you mean 3pts spark advanced as in 3% i would go to 10% make it 11 deg if you are running 98 octane... I am currently on 93 octane running 10% advance. also you hit 95.81 LOL not 88

Re: RE: DATA LOG
I did advance the timing to the full 10% today, I hear no detonation or have any other probs to speak of.....am not sure if the 10% did any good40thmustang wrote:as far as I can tell it looks ok to me. no harm being done. ....had wife in the car, she can only take so many G's! I know she said she couldn't move much when I HIT it! Hmmmmm.....that gives me an idea! Just need to learn how to make it work to my advantage...
Ok....3 hours later: Drove it around a bit, got on it most of the time to see if I would hear some knockin....nothing, don't think it gave much more than it already has performance wise. I've retarded it back to 3% and runnin the same! I think this is ok where it's at for the present. Still runnin race fuel, will try again at 10% on 93 gas to see if a difference in performance shows. One thing I did notice was the idle was a bit rough at 10%....that's one of the reasons I went back to 3%. I hope someone else will take a gander at the LOG FILE. Thanks all....

That is wierd for it to be rush at an idle, the spark advance only affects the engine at WOT. As far as a rough idle goes, try cleaning your IAC , I just cleaned mine and my car idles smoother, it was very dirty
