Which Tuner for 2005 Chevy Silverado Flex Fuel

Post by Farmer_Chevy »

What tuner will I need. The U1793, or the tuner for ethanol. I dont use e-85 very much, but I dont want to loose the option. Also which tuner will create the most power? The engine code is Z and its a Z71.

I am quite interested in this topic as I have the same truck. Would it be safe to assume that we could use either one with our trucks? The U7193 section has the 8th digit VIN 'Z' listed if i'm not mistaken. The Flex Fuel one is probably for those who regularly use E85 and provides them with benefits for that specific fuel.

I'm in Alberta, Canada where you can't even buy E85.

Go with the U7193. You can still burn E-85 with the Diablo tune in the vehicle, as it's for 91+ octane gas, and E-85 is ~105 octane.

He's correct. The U7193 is what you would want. It retains factory programming to run e85. FLEX7193 is converting a non flex engine, to run on the corn stuff.

On a non FFV, wouldn't one need to install bigger injectors?

............just curious

No...GM uses the same injectors on the FFV applications.
There is room to play at stock power levels, but if you planned a power adder or even a cam swap, I would consider a larger set.

Now, If I were to buy the U7193, would I expect to see improved performance with the E85? Or just on the gas?

Hey Guys....I have a 2007 Silverado Classic with the 5.3L Flex Fuel Engine and I'm tuning with the U7193. The performance tune runs great with gasoline and I have filed up one time, about 6 months back while on a road trip, with E85. I didn't notice any big difference for the bad or for the good. So my opinon the predator tune for gasoline will be just as good for the E85. The tuner give a great performance increase over the stock tune.

don't understand this they should have a disclaimer ........ the fuel pumps need to be changed out ... as they are totally different, but the pig tails (connectors) ... all GM vehicles use the ethanol motors in all of its product lines but the fuel systems need to be slightly modified ... and operate at different preasures and E85 is highly corrosive!!!!
