I was in the middle of updating my 7165 w/ the R10 and have an issue that I cant seem to get solved.
I get the "Application Missing or Corrupt error on the Pred display and have tried the special instructions with Legacy setup and trying to load the CROM file anyway. When I do that procedure I get the Please power cycle the tool to continue window. I power cycle the Pred and get an Installing Bootloader display, then get a tool is ready window on the PC- Click Yes and I get a quick flash of a Uploading CROM window on the PC and then instantly get a Download Failed, Transmission Failed window, Only option is to Click OK.
The way this originally started (2 days ago) is I was trying to do the update but think I had the Baud set to 57600 rather than 115200. Don't know if that could have been the badness that started this or not.
Since then I've also tried COM1 Serial and USB to Serial Converter on 2 different PCs. Hyperterm on both PCs (Get no response on Pred power cycle on either PC at many different Hyperterm setups).
I give. What's the fix? - hopefully not RMA.

Sounds like you were using an older version of DSDownloader.
Make sure you start with the 1,9,9,6 version of DSDL from this site and you should be fine.

RE: U7165 Firmware "Installing Bootloader" hang
I get this same issue, but I'm using 1.9.9.6 and I'm using a standard 9 pin serial cable from the serial port on my laptop to the serial port on the predator, same model 7165. I have tried a LOT of alternate ways too and nothing works, it writes from what I can barely catch, 2 packets and then throws up the, "Download Failed, Transmission Failed" error. What is going on here? I have followed ALL steps on this website that try to troubleshoot connectivity issues and I've used hyper terminal, it detects the predator when its powered on and displays a boot up message with its name and whatnot, but has an option to hit X to erase application. Haven't tried this yet cause I'm afraid to. I also am getting the, "data is missing or corrupt" message and have done the steps necessary to work around this without luck. I've definitely tried another laptop as well...

Set the baud to 115200 and then make sure compressed send is checked.

Your Com port is correct. What i need you to do is check the bootloader of the predator when you first power it up. It will say booting "power_6_0" or booting "pcm_6_0".... please let me know what it says when booting please. If its "power_6_0" then r10 is required ... if its "pcm_6_0" then you will need to download the 9r04 crom.Forditude wrote:I was in the middle of updating my 7165 w/ the R10 and have an issue that I cant seem to get solved.

If the bootloader says" ford_6_0 "then its a U7160 part #.
