Hello everyone!
I'm new around these parts and have a question. I am about to purchase a predator tuner for my 2005 silverado to change some parameters that came on a mail order ECM i bought.
I got this computer in the mail with a tune on it and am not happy with the shifting firmness. It 'bangs' into third from 2nd at part throttle and shudders the drivetrain. I also hate when it scares the crap out of me on the highway when it drop shifts to 2nd on the highway at 75mph.
Will playing with the shift firmness/timing and the RPM/MPH shift points fix these issues? Or should I ask first, will the predator tuner even work with my truck with the new ECM? The proper VIN was programmed in and all the ID tags that show up with a Tech 2 at the dealership check out okay.
I got this mail order ECM to fix a coolant sensor issue i was having with the stock ECM (needle would fall to 'cold' after warming up and throw codes). This new computer fixed that but the tuning sucks.
Thanks for your help.

Not sure about Predator reading and modifying an already tuned ECM, but do you have a warranty/return/RETUNE from the place you bought this from? I'd ask them if they could fix your shifting issue. Their ECM, their problem.

That is a possibility. I need to keep this ECM though as it fixed my coolant temp issue so I don't want to return it completely. Plus, being in Canada and having to ship this back to the US would take about 4 weeks plus however long it would take waitforme to re-tune the thing. Then I worry about waiting all that time and paying for shipping only to have it not fixed properly or having something else messed up. I would also have to do two crank relearns: 1) when I put the stock one back in while the other is being fixed, and 2) when I get the tuned one back. The dealership here charges $70 per relearn episode.
Then there's the point of me being able to modify parameters on my own and tune things 'just the way I want it'. I'm trying to weigh my options and having a hard time with it.

RE: U7193 - Modify Parameters on aftermarket ECM
Chevyrado,
When I was in the business to buy a ecm from a known company, I learned that after doing research on many other ones available that 100% of them stayed behind their ECM, so in other words if you needed some kind of update, you would simply called them and they will ship you another one with the specified changes. I suggest that you contact t dealer that sell that one to you and ask them to fix whatever problems you are having. They should be able to adjust those setting for you.
But on the other hand if you want to modify the ECM parameters yourself, you mighwant to have them put the ECM for you back to stock. I might be wrong on this but it seem the best possible way for the DS tuner to work on the new ECM, once again I might be wrong. But good luck.

Thanks a lot for your input Jonathan. I think I am going to take your advice on this one. I hesitated in sending it back to wait4me because I was under the impression that I would need to do a crank relearn when putting back in my stock PCM and then another relearn once the re-programmed one arrived back. This would have been a ~$140 job at the dealership for both relearns.
I found out however at another forum (gm-trucks.com) that the relearns would not be necessary since the stock one is configured for my truck and the aftermarket one has already had a relearn performed (the first time I put it in). This is the way I understand it anyway. So I'm gonna drop the factory PCM back in since the weather isn't to cold yet and ship the wait4me PCM back for a stock reflash. Thanks again.

Assuming that whoever flashed the PCM for you did not lock it, you can use the modify stock tune setting to make these changes with the Predator.
Thanks
Thanks
