Flex fuel capabilities on current tuners?

Andy knows his stuff pretty well. There is inherant risk with any type of tune use, I have this FlexFuel tune in my truck and have no qualms with using it. GM uses the same injectors on the 8.1L gas, which is 30% bigger than the 6.0L, so if the same injector can handle the 8.1L then it can handle more flow when needed. BUT if you were to start modifying the engine beyond stock configuration(hardware performance parts), then you would need to look into bigger injectors(even without the flexfuel tune), otherwise the "stock" injectors should work just fine in a stock motor/FlexFuel combination. Everyone has an opinion on this, but those links MikeL provided shows hardware data/parts, not just well maybe if worst case thinking, not to say the opinion of others isn't valid, but if you were really worried about your motor(or durability of your whole vehicle) you wouldn't mess with the stock OEM tune to begin with. This is just another option(like the 87 Tune or 91/93 Tune or the Custom Tune), and personally I like to have it even if I just get the 10%-15% better 100% gas MPG that teh FlexFuel tune gives.

So how do u like running E85? How is it powerwise, mpg before after? Are u saving money running it? This maybe a question for the diablo guys, but If I have a E85 tune done, first which tune would they want to modify (Stock, Diablo, Diablo modified)? I am also assuming LTFT's would have to be relogged/adjusted? Thats not a big deal....just curious! I can save my current tune right, and then have the E85 tune.....Just incase I need to switch back? I am very interested in this! Thanks for the help guys!

Andy has all the info you ask of, and answered some of these questions on my original post "K2500 Suburban 6.0L E85 Tune" I don't have the MPG comparisons yet, I will get some over the next few months(as I have a few trips to northern Michigan planned) and I will keep a update on my other post. I do like running it though, seems to a bit more zippy than the gas, but since the tune enhances the gas stuff too it is a bit difficult to tell. My tune is fixed so I can not adjust anything, but it is 20% cheaper than gas, so using the figures they gave, I should be saving 10% on fuel costs overall with the drop in MPG for ethanol, and I don't like giving my money to the middle east if I don't have too. My wife has the E85 Impala and she likes the performance of the E85 over the straight gas, and if she can tell it must be noticable. See my orignal post or email Andy for specific info, I askled many of the same questions when I was reasearching it and he had good answers for me.

So from reading the other thread, the flex tune is a whole new tool? Its not a tune that can be loaded into a current revision u7193? Also there is no dialing anything in with it(LTFT's, shiftpoints ect) Thanks........

Not exactly, Andy Wicks (owner of DynotuneUSA and E85 Solutions) can write you a custom tune using your backup tune files, but I think it would be dedicated with no adjustments, so you would have a tune for FlexFuel E85 and then tunes for performance. Email Andy directly for specific questions and costs. MikeL or Andy can better answer what can be done with your "current revision tool" but I am pretty sure you can get a custom E85 tune written for your truck. The FLX7193 is just a U7193 tool with a dedicated E85 FlexFuel tune(there are no tune adjustments) on the tool, written by Andy Wicks for GM trucks on a DS Predetor tool, sold by DiabloSport. There was the same FLX7193 in the "old" tool version, but when the U7193 tool was upgraded, the FLX7193 tool got the same upgrade. I think there is now a FLX7198(for another version of GM truck) tool based off the new U7198 tool as well. Again, MikeL and Andy can better answer specific questions. I got my FLX7193 directly from Andy, and he was great to deal with. Hope this helped.

Hi Guys, I work for GM engineering and know some inside information. That TSB is a CYA for GM. If they have not validated a system to all the OEM vehicle requirement(this includes EPA requirements for emissions), they will not be held responsible for any damage done(or non compliance) by anything they have not sold you other than what the government says they had too. It does not mean it can't, it means GM won't be held responsible for anything you choose to do to your car. So if you do it, its you'll who will have to pay if it messes things up, not them. Again, any performance tune will void all GM warranties, E85, 87, 93, hyperchip, supertuner, etc.............., you get the idea. Running ethanol in your non OEM GM FFV vehicle is no different than putting on a, K&N air filter, CAI, changing gear ratios, installing headers, changing wheel and tires sizes, etc.........., again you get the idea. Knowing what you are doing is key and what risk you are accepting by doing it helps to make an informed choice.
