with the exception of trading it in nothing. Mine has done it since new, two dealers say its normal. Can't seem to break anything as hard as I have tried so I guess they are right.

RE: trans ratcheting
I'll tell ya Bob, I'm sure that ALL the dealers are going to tell us that it's "normal". And I'll bet that all the same trans have the identical problem. But that doesn't make it a good thing. It might make it "normal" as far as Dodge is concerned but it certainly isn't how transmissions are supposed to act. Does anyone know the cause of the problem? Is it due to low trans fluid control pressures or something similar? I'm getting awful tired of sitting with my foot on the brake waiting for the trans to engage. Ever hear of a Ford or Chevy owner complaining of anything so ridiculous. No you don't because Ford and Chevy fix the problem BEFORE the car hits the street.
RE: trans ratcheting
It is completely normal. These cars use a Mercedes transmission, and every car, whether Chrysler or Mercedes that has it installed works exactly the same way. Its been like that for 10 years, and will be like that until the day its discontinued.
RE: trans ratcheting
It's there to prevent you from doing "reverse drops" and then trying to get your drive train fixed under warranty (or even doing it by accident). Lots of kids like to get a car that can't otherwise spin the wheels to do so by getting it rolling in reverse then dropping it directly into drive and flooring it... Most drive trains aren't engineered to take those kind of forces. Seems like a good idea to me and yes, it's intentionally engineered in there and not something they "forgot to fix" before releasing it.
