WHATS WRONG???

Post by LuisMunoz »

after i installed my BBK CAI and 70mm throttle body and plenum my car started to sound like i was dragging cans under it when i would step on the gas pedal lightly and felt really sluggish on accelaration... after installing the predetor tune(U7146) it got louder, i dont know much about cars but that sound it makes doesnt seem right to me, can anybody tell me if there is anything wrong with my car, if so how do i fix it??? If you need more info please let me know!!!!

any input highly appreciated!!!!

thanks

sounds like detonation, dont drive it again until you get it taken care of. my old gt used to do it, cleaning the maf sensor fixed it but could be bad gas or low octane, running lean, etc...BUT DO NOT DRIVE IT.

if it sounds like your shaking up a can of marbles then its definately detonation, and that will destroy your motor. you can have detonation without codes...i did. i would return everything to stock and see if its gone, if it is then you were prob. running lean. to check that you would need an air fuel ratio meter or have it put on a dyno. if cleaning the maf sensor and returning it to stock doesnt fix it I would definately have it towed to your mechanic.

yea according to the research ive done, id stay away from any fenderwell ones on our cars. JLT makes a good one from what ive heard. good luck and post back when you figure it out.

should i go JLT CAI or JLT ram air intake??? As for the BBK one ill remove it tomorrow asap and put the stock one back, ill also clean the MAF and switch gas maybe even octane... ill invest in a wide band for the mean time to keep in eye on A/F ratio. can you tell me what kond of damage im looking at????

ive never bought a JLT so i wouldnt want to say but as far as damage you should be fine if you dont keep driving it. My first gt did it the day it bought it used. i drove it about 100 miles back to my house, not knowing what it was. I had the car for another 5 years without any issues.

ok so heres wat i did... i removed my BBK CAI and reinstalled the factory air box, cleaned the MAF, removed the predetor tune and reinstalled the stock one, my gas tank was on its last drop so i pumped 86 octane into it to see if that might help, after all this NO CHANGE, that F****** sound is still there. i drove around for a while logging a couple of things with the predetor. i noiticed that the DEG SPRKADV would change a lot, when cruising without even touching the gas it would stay at 20 DEG, when i would accel a little it would jump up to 34-36 DEG, one time it went to like 46 or 56 cant quite remeber, i would let go of the gas pedal and it would rapidly drop back down to 20 DEG, and when i would floor it the DEG would drop down to like 10 or 12 DEG, i think the lowest was like 8 or 9... my question is, is this normal for any car??? also forgot to mention that i checked my plugs and they looked pretty bad, i wont be able to replace them until friday (PAY DAY), does this sound like detonation, will replacing the plugs fix my problem or would i have to do something else aswell???

if you need more info let me know

thanks
