u7137 and turbo tuning

Post by atttaboy »

have you guy's been able to get the computer to accept a different afr in closed loop than the stock 14.7 afr? sct has not been able to do this which causes problems with boost at part throttle creating dangerous lean conditions. i would also be curious if you have tuned any ram boosted applications. if not how has part throttle worked out in the cars?

SCT can control a/f in part throttle boost. It's not an easy task. I would like to see some easier controls from Diablo however.

Common Johan, give up the goods! I've heard good things about the turboed cars, but they weigh almost half as much as my lifted 4x4 and i can get into full boost (6lbs. with a 5lb. spring on the waste gate, waste gate wide open) at 1500 rpms going up hills. We have lots of long steep grades here in california.

Can you run 14psi on 8.8:1 compression.

I dont see it being a problem bringing fuel in earlier for a boosted application.

I was told that in closed loop all that the computer would allow is 14.7 afr, that it was ingrained in the programing and that the solution was to retard the timing in low rpm's. I would prefer to see more fuel added incramentaly as boost increases in lower rpms instead of an across the board cut in timming at low rpms. As this would cause a loss of power when not under boost. Have you heard of a problem like this and has diablo been able to solve it?

I only ask because next weekend I am planing on taking my truck to Performance Dyno Tuning in oakdale california to give it a shot as they asure me this can be done. They claim to have just completed a supercharged hemi 6.1 car (i dont remember which one) that throws down 600 rwhp. but my point to them is that superchargers (rpm based boost) and turbo's (load based boost) are two different animals when it comes to fueling at low rpms. While the map tables for the needed two bar srt4 map sensor are the same, the fueling and timing issues are quite different until after about 2500 rpm. As they are quoting me 8hr's dino time at $125 per hour = $1000 + predator about $400 I would really like this to work the first time. Believe me, ive wasted plenty of money already. lol.....lol!

As for the guy that wants to know if 8.8:1 can handle 15lbs........ HELL YEA! I'll post up in a couple of weeks. :drivingbad:

I was looking into a forged bottom end around 8.5-9.5 compression for my truck. Im running the 6lb procharger on there tuning which is awful. The aux injectors dont work right and this setup requires a Diablo, larger injectors, and a map sensor. If the stock block cannot take 6lbs with out a good 70k-100k mile run, I wanted a forged bottom.

I asked if the 8.8 compression would take 14psi because I wanted to run 9lbs on a forged block.

Welcome to my world of tuning lol...lol.... I know exactly how you feel. somebody sold you somthing without a real tuning solution! WELCOME My block isnt forged but all the components are. Pistons, rings, rods, crank, high strentgh bolts, heavy duty valve springs (gotta help things close under boost), hydralic harmonic balancer, pistons and heads ceramic coated (gotta keep things cool) diamond ground valve seats (i think three different angles or something like that lol ). As for the block from what I've heard it can handle plenty hp not sure exactly how much but I'm sure somebody on here knows!

Nice setup! If you don't mind me asking how much did all that cost you?

Well..... about $5500 in components for just the motor all top of the line. $4500 R&R, machine work ( crank , rods + pistons perfectly balanced , ceramic coatings, high flow cats, reworked exaust, etc.) should be able to spin this baby above 7000 rpm but I don't think it should be nessecary, more like whatever the dino shows before droping off on the hp curve.

MISSING ingredient ? TUNING!!!!

Can't wait to blow my trany so I can rebuild it too......you know I'm gonna need it! lol.......lol

This is not going to be a problem guys.
Although we have yet to play with an FI HEMI Ram application, the same tricks will apply that we use inthe LX HEMI applications, and you guys will reap the benefits just as they have.

As for engine pics I have some but they're at home and I work on the road. Most of the internal components came from krcfieldtech at KRC performance. I would have them tune it but they're a couple thousand miles away. Matt at nextgen auto sport in hayward california built it call him brian he'll tell you exactly whats in it. He is one of your dealers and all, but he's having a hard time stomaching the money required to purchase the DCX package from you guy's otherwise he would be tuning it. I've been screwing with this for two years and have yet to fully enjoy my investment.

Get a few guys locally that need tuning and approach him, if he sees the market is there it will be easier to stomach the initial purchase!!

It is pretty simple to tune for boosted apps with the DCX software as you can rescale the axes for your main fueling table(VE) to reference boost, so fueling should not be an issue. You will always want 14.7 during cruise.
Timing can be set up the same way to reflected a forced induction application.
As long as the tuner knows what he/she is doing you should be in good hands.
