U7165 Update Problems - application corrupt
I followed the instructions for updating my predator U7165. There are 3 different updates available. I tried the newest one and it failed. Now I get the "application corrupt" message. I have tried to load one of the other updates to no avail. Nothing is working. This predator was purchased in 2005 and never updated until now. I have a brand new sewell USB to serial cable. I have followed all the online and support instructions exactly.
At this point I would just like to get the thing working again. This is exactly why I never updated it before

Try these instructions with the power_6_0-7r84_H512 crom file from the 7165 support page.

I found those instructions and tried them before I posted. I have also tried disabling all my computer security measures before doing the update. The DS Download software seems to hang up and eventually I need to force close it. The predator continues to say "corrupt application" Is it possible to get the original crom file? Will that help? Do I have a "low memory" predator? Thanks...

OK, I tried it one more time and this time - Magic! It worked. Can I update it to the latest update? or is that not possible. Thanks -
RE: U7165 Update Problems - application corrupt
Well I have tried updating my predator several times now with the r10 and r05 updates, but neither will go. Then I end up back in the application corrupt state. I have been able to get it back to r84 several times which I think means I am not having computer or cable problems. The predator was purchased in 2005 and I have heard some had insufficient memory to take the newer updates? - What's the deal?
RE: U7165 Update Problems - application corrupt
This is correct.. The older tools do not have the memory space for the newer croms... We do have an update procedure in place though...

There is a sticker on the back of the tool, what does it say?

As stated at the beginning of this post, this tool is a U7165 which does NOT have a memory problem at this time (if I am correct) so there must be another problem.

When you go from 84 to 10, does it tell you that the tool has been improperly upgraded?dansul wrote:Well I have tried updating my predator several times now with the r10 and r05 updates, but neither will go. If so, it means you need to go back to 84 then restore the stock tune to the truck before you can proceed with the 10 and 05 updates.

RE: Re: RE: U7165 Update Problems - application corrupt
So I finally got it to upgrade all the way to r05. I had to do it in order, oldest update to the newest one and I had to do manually (I could not let it auto-detect). I unsuccessfully tried a lot of other combinations along the way. Twice I had to restart from the beginning. The back of the predator says 2005 6.0 and has a serial number tag that says 1148666 if anyone is still interested. My initial problems may have been related to the USB port on the computer - COM3 was the charm. Anyway, thanks for all of the help - I really appreciate it.
PS Update is already on the truck!!

I am having a application corruption problem myself on a U7165 the last update was the r20. I tried to update to r05 and that's where the trouble started. I have tried everything listed in this post and all instructions listed on the website to fix this problem, all the tool keeps telling me when I try to load the r84 or r10 or r05 is "CANNOT LOAD POWER 0_6_ APPLICATION INTO PCM TOOL 6_0_. I did not save the original program on to my computer but have one still from the last update and it won't work either.
When the tool is powered up it says booting pcm _6_0 I was going to try the r04 revision that I read about that might fix this problem in another post but can't find it to try it?
