I tested AFE and Airaid and never sparked any codes, but I also never got above economy tune with stock exhaust. I did not care for the extra noise the open AFE design generates and it caused too much turbo clatter for me. Airaid did not seem much better than stock. I also tested AFE OEM replacement in the stock air box which also generated a little turbo clatter. As you know the 6.4L is somewhat sensitive to airflow changes. I am trying to keep my rig quiet, so I plan to test the Banks kit next. I am heading outside to program the truck with 9t06a to verify cruise and traction control operation. Hope this solves the quirks with version 4 and above. The test was successful, so it appears you may have a winner. I only tested the tow and economy tunes and they run as expected. No issues with cruise or traction control. As with previous versions, the tow tune gets worse fuel economy than stock, but adds just enough kick to be useful. The economy tune does better than stock on both fuel efficiency and power, but introduces more turbo clutter than stock or tow tunes.

What intake and exhaust are you using with the 80hp tune? Also, I have heard some of the tuners create a lot of soot...how often is your DPF firing?

I honestly create such a little amount over stock that it's not measurable... Unless you're pulling with the extreme or something even then the only time the 6.4L puffs even a little bit of smoke is right off the line when you flat-foot it... And this is without a DPF. It's nothing like the previous model diesels... Nor what you see with sled-pullers or drag racers...

hey my 08 is bone stock air intake and exhaust. thinking about getting the afe cold air kit soon. the 80 horse setting is powerful, gets good gas mileage, and shifts close to stock. i also never notice the dpf doing anything different than stock.

Great...thanks. I normally like AFE and have had very good luck in the past with gas variants. I tried AFE part number 75-11262 for a week and removed it due to noise and limited improvement. If you are trying to generate more noise, then you might be happy. As I mentioned before, I was not impressed with the Airaid system either. As a third attempt, I tried a AFE Pro-7 OEM Drop-in for the F-250 stock air box and that was quieter than the two CAI systems I experimented with. It has been my experience that the stock filter and box is the most quiet and turbo friendly combo despite my urges to help it breath better. If I start dabbling with high HP tunes I will have no choice, but to re-look high-flow intakes and exhaust. After talking to numerous partners-in-crime, I am not convinced that a DPF-back system makes a cost effective difference despite all the hipe. As much as I'd like to, I don't want to play with removing the DPF either since this is a brand new truck, I drive it everyday, and I bought an extended Ford warranty but that's just me :) I too am on stock intake and exhaust right now and testing the tunes on update six. I will try the 80hp tune and see how it behaves on mine. I am very interested in whether anyone has tried the Banks intake and/or exhaust. Also, Banks is still working diligently on an efficient tuner for the F-250 and admit 6.4L tuning is not easy if you want to do it right vice winging it like some of the other aftermarket folks have done. Again, this is just my experience.
