07 GT500, K&N CAI, Diablo K&N tune, feels like it's

Post by davenportmotorsports »

We have two customers with 07 GT500's. We've installed a K&N intake, and a Diablo with the latest K&N tune. Both cars are having the same problem.

When cruising under light throttle in a high gear, 4th or 5th, the car bucks, and feels like it has a miss. If you give the car more throttle, the buck/miss goes away. The cars run great under wide open throttle, or medium throttle, the only time we have a complaint is under light throttle.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Both customers cars are gone. I'll check with my tech if he has a datatlog, though he's gone for the afternoon. I'll let you know on Monday.

Thanks for the quick response!!

Did the cold air intakes come with any type of shield to block turbulent air from hitting the maf/filter assembly? We had the same issue a few years ago when we were testing the JLT kit. The kit they originally sent us was for flow bench testing and missing the shield. It would buck/jerk cruising down the road and would really get bad when a big truck would passby. Monitor the MafV while you are cruising and see how stable it is. It's more than likely the culprit.

sohfast94 - Unfortunately our tech didn't save the datalog of the car. The customer lives out of town so I'll see what I can do about getting the car back.

kmac1 - The K&N kit did not come with a shield. The customer say's the bucking is bad when the hood starts to flutter, though we've found the buck/jerk is at it's worst when you are cruising at about 40 mph in 5th gear at light throttle.
Is the solution changing to a CAI with a shield, or can we fix this in the tuning?

Thanks for any help and advise, we really appreciate it!

If you have verified its turbulent air hitting the Maf then a shield will be the only fix for that car. You could contact K&N to see if they have had the issue or if they have a fix. It would be ashame to have to change the CAI for this reason, I hope they have something for you or maybe you could make something...

Checked with K&N they don't have a shield for the CAI. We tried a Steeda CAI with a shield on one of the cars. Problem solved!

Thanks for your help guys!!
