Got some knock retard today..

Post by kenandjenn »

I advanced my timing +3 degrees throughout the entire rpm range. I got between 0.5- 2.0 STKR past 3,500 rpms in 1st gear.

Not bad at all. I'm gonna leave +3 degrees down low and just add in +1 degree above that.

It felt good with +3 down low....

This was done on the 93 octane tune

First off, im guessing this is an SRT4?? Why do you want the knock?? Take your timing back down to get rid of the knock.. What are you trying to do here?? This thread makes no sense to me...

This is a Hemi Ram. I do not want knock and I clearly said I was going to back down the timing past 3,500 rpms to get rid of the KR.

Also 2 degrees of STKR is nothing..... The PCM will easily deal with this and its no danger to the engine.

I want to be as aggressive as possible with the timing and at this point I'm their.

I would say that you want to back the timing back down to where you get NO STKR. The knock has to occur for the computer to sense it and pull timing, so it is not good for it. It is also pointless. If it pulled 2, I would set it 3 degrees lower. That is only 1 degree lower than it was running if it was pulling 2 and then you get no knock and you have a little room for changing weather conditions that might not be fully compensated for.

I also have 3* advanced timing in a ram from 1-3.8K. I did not advance the timing in the upper RPMs. The only time i get Knock is when it shifts and the most ive ever seen at a shift was 2.50.

works good and runs hard. I would try some different fuel and give it another try kenandjenn. Maybe try some octane booster if you dont have access to better fuel.

A little KR isn't gonna hurt a thing.... I like it right on the borderline. LTKR is a bad thing, but if people knew how much STKR the Superchips 91 tune had at light throttle they'd be surprised.

I saw 4-5 degrees a lot with Superchips at light throttle and 2-3 at WOT. But it was always STKR.

I use 93 Octane Chevron as well.

If I read your original post right, you only get 0.5 - 2.0 STKR around 3,500 RPM's and only in 1st gear? Sounds like false knock to me. The computer is still pulling the timing by 0.5 to 2.0 degrees but only for the time it detects the knock. So if you are getting 0 in all other gears, I would say you are doin' pretty darn good.
