Predator/Power Puck combo EGT's HELP!!

Post by Fletch7129 »

I was accelerating quite briskly getting on the freeway today and noticed that by the time I was at the top of the on-ramp,,,,my EGT's were through the roof!! I was exceeding 1600* and climbing. I let off the throttle and it started to come down quite quickly. I tried the same thing on the tow setting with the puck at 90HP and it did the same thing. I also tried the tow setting with the puck on stock and again the same result. Just curious how much of this heat my engine can handle or what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks,
Fletch

Fletch,

Are you using the "Stacker tunes" in your Predator? Please make sure you are- if you are not using those tunes, you may notice high EGT's.

Are you towing a heavy load? If so, make sure that you put your puck on 60, and your Predator on the "stacker 60" so that you are not going to add more power than the truck can handle with loads over 8,000 LBS.

i had the same problem with my 05'. no matter what did i had high EGT's if i loaded a tune from the predator and got on it. the puck alone with no tune was ok, but load a tune and add fuel and instant heat. i had to buy a boost fooler to create higher psi of boost to get rid of the heat. my pyro probe is post turbo so i saw higher numbers than a pre turbo probe, but trust me, they were off the scale. you should have a free flow exhaust and large cfm intake to help keep temps down, add a boost fooler and you'll be good up to the performance tune. i can't say how much it would help on extreme cuz i never loaded it and i don't plan to.

I have an aftermarket tubo on my truck and even w/ the Predator on Extreme/Puck on low my temps never go above 1100 degrees. I ran a Quadzilla prior to this and it would shoot to 1500 pretty quick...

Maybe it's time for a new turbo.......

you won't feel a whole lot of difference. the boost fooler allows the wastegate to stay closed longer increaseing your boost psi which in turn removes the heat more efficiently. higher boost = less heat. just don't exceed 50 psi, the stock head gaskets, studs and turbo won't handle much above that.

the quadzilla boost fooler is for the 04.5 and up the 03 and 04 had machanical wastegates and to mod them all you do is cut the hose that goes from the tubro to the wastegate and put a plug in it very simple and very FREE
