ProCharger Help

Post by 08stonedcharger »

We installed a Procharger tuner kit on my friends 2007 Charger and we need a tune! We had a tune that was on the tuner but when we updated the tuner to V9r10, the tune was gone! Can we install the 93CAI and limp the car home?
This tuner kit doesn't come with bigger injectors or a MAP sensor so I'm thinking yes! What do you guys think?

I have a 2008 Charger with a Procharger but my tune is set up for a 2 bar MAP and bigger injectors so I don't want to use my tune on his car.

HELP!!!

Okay-
We bought some Octane boost and installed the 93 CAI tune (no 93 sold here in the desert) and then added 3% through the rpm ranges and drove the hour drive back to my house taking it easy---no error messages.
Waiting for an e-mail tune from pro-charger sometime this week now.

Good to hear you guys got home ok.

(Just for the academic discussion)

1) I don't think your tune would have worked on his car. Wrong VIN?
The PCM has to have the VIN from the car programmed in it. I *think* the VIN is part of the tune. The predator canned tunes are actually "change" files and get applied to a copy of your backup file as they get loaded to the car. The VIN is already in your backup. I think that's how that works (maybe the VIN is stored somewhere else in the PCM and not part of the tune load?) A CMR tune is a complete tune file and needs to have the VIN already in it. I don't think the Predator applies anything to a CMR file as it loads it (unless you've changed parameters) .

2) Using your line of thinking you would have wanted to use the 91 CAI tune? The CAI tunes adds a bit of fuel for the increased air flow. The 93 tunes add a bit of timing over the 91 tunes. Your concern while limping home is to avoid detonation. You'd be wanting more fuel and less timing. The race gas was a good idea.

The canned tunes primarily address wide open throttle when it comes to timing and fuel. I'm sure you avoided putting your foot into it :), so the tune (and adding the 3%) probably didn't have any effect at all over stock. If you had a cam you might have used the predator to raise the idle to keep it from stalling.

Sooo....you installed a Procharger, that did not come with a tune?
You're really going to need a custom tune man, get with a CMR dealer ASAP.

I dont see how you got it home on a different MAP sensor. Do not boost at all. If you boost on a canned performance tune meant for 91-93 oct it has no revisions for the MAP, injectors, or a boost kpa fuel/timing map you will kill your motor.

What different MAP Sensor? We used the stock one! The tuner kit we installed DOESN"T come with injectors or a 2 bar MAP sensor. The guy we purchased it from was running a diablo tune with the stock injectors and the stock MAP sensor but we lost it when we updated the Diablo tuner to V9r10. We are in the process of ordering the injectors and 2 bar MAP sensor from Procharger.

How can you run a blower on stock injectors? I maxxed the stockers out on just heads/cam, so with a blower theres no way they aren't maxxed.

I'm getting the feeling that you aren't running a 6.1, but have a 5.7 instead.

It's a 5.7. The guy the owner bought the kit from had it on a 5.7 as well with stock injectors and MAP sensor for an entire year with no issues. Like I mentioned on the first post, the tune he had was erased when we updated the tuner. I added some more fuel so we didn't lean out, the engine wasn't pinging or anything unusual. I never drove the car over 2500rpm so it never boosted much. We are in the process of gettting 39lb injectors and a 2 bar Map and the car is in the garage until then.

Thanks for all of the input guys- and yes the injectors need to be added.
I am waiting for a call back for all the parts needed to complete the kit. :D

So you all know- I got a heck of a deal on the unit,(I didn't even want to supercharge- but couldn't walk away from it) but I knew even before I made the offer that it would probably take an additional outlay to get it to work and I factored that in to my offer.
I had planned on adding the injectors and also headers over the next month or so...but I just need to get them a little quicker (a lot quicker!)

I should have done a bit more research before the install- but with the holidays I got delayed in my research- and couldn't miss a prime install time while both 08Stonedcharger and I were on vacation...the research part came back to bite me--so I need to order a few more parts as I expected.

Thanks again for all the help :D
