2004 GMC 2500- TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS
hey guys i got a 2004 gmc 2500 lb7. u180 predator v-6.01. 1.11. i would set the tune to one of the tunes it didnt matter and if i was to go around 80mph in overdrive and the transmission would kick done hard into 3rd gear not upshiftin or downshiftin and stay in that gear. i would stop and msg appears sayin gear shift perhebited. i would go to codes on the DS and P0101 Mass Air Flow Circuit, Range/Performance and P0700 TCM, Malfunction would come up. Does not do this on stock. Is it deal with computer with tranny or what? PLEASE HELP!! Thanks!
RE: 2004 GMC 2500- TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS
what tune did you set it on when your first had this happen? how long has it been doing this? It sounds like you limped your tranny but if it does it on the tow tune then I don't know. I limped my tranny on my '05 with it on the extreme setting. I set it down to 65hp now and haven't ad any tranny problems since. A lot of guys lip the tranny on the high setting, drop it down a notch (but now the trans is weaker) so they limp it again and again 'till they are running the tow tune. Is this what you did?

The P0101 is an issue, do you have a CAI on this truck?

well right when i installed it i didnt let the tranny relearn and just started hammerin on it.. its been does since the day i put it in.. it limps into 65,85,120, never tried in tow tune...why is the trans weaker.. i just changed my tranny fluid and it wasnt even dirty so thats a good sign... you think i leave it in stock and let the tranny relearn its self for awhile then install a tune and dont beat on it for awhile?... what does the P0101 mean? wats a CAI... THANKS for your help...

When does the tranny slip? The most common problems are with the 4-5th gear shift. Those are the weakest clutches.
Your fluid won't necessarily be dirty just because you limped the tranny. When you limp it the clutch plates slip against each other instead of grabbing and it creates a glazed/burnt and more slippery coating. That is why it's easier to limp it the next time. The more you limp it the worse they will get. Sounds like it's time for a rebuild if you want to run the tuner. Best route to go is rebuild it with the stock Allison brand clutches and get a Suncoast 1050 Torque converter and a shift kit. The stock torque converter on these trucks is weak and is the main reason it can't hold the power. They say you can run up to 500 hp with the rebuild and Suncoast converter. You will be able to run your tune on extreme all the time with no problems. These rebuilds are not cheap though. The torque converter is around $1,000 to $1,500....sometimes you can find them used for around $500.
P0101- I believe I have the same code as do many other people with programmers. My intake is stock. Try cleaning the mass airflow sensor with some electrical spray. Also check the wires going to the maf sensor. I have to try this with mine yet too.

yeah the tranny slips in 5th.... but on stock i can beat on it and go 100 mph and it dont go to limp.. must be just the torque and makin it slip then huh? i got a k&n air intake... well i dont need alot of power i just wanted lil more than i have stock and get good fuel mileage.. any suggestions on other programmers? ive been limpin my tranny a quite a few times just to see if it does it on the other tunes so that isnt good..
RE: Re: RE: 2004 GMC 2500- TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS
Yeah, that's why it slips. You gotta be real careful with the K&N filters too. A lot of people oil them too heavily and that oil gets on the maf. Clean the maf and clear the code...see if it comes up again.
Why are you interested in other programmers?

whats a maf? sorry i dont know alll the lil terms.. well i talked to the dealer where i got the Diablosport and he said that i can take it back and try a different programmer... and i have also heard diablo is hard on trannys but have hellaish power and which they do.. if only the computer would commuicate better with the tranny....
RE: Re: RE: 2004 GMC 2500- TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS
MAF is the Mass Airflow Sensor. It's the plug in the tube of your intake after the air filter.
No matter what programmer you run you can limp the tranny. The Predator might be a little harder than others but they all do it eventually if you run it at a high setting. The damage has already been done to the trans.

oh ok duh... well when i run it on 65 hp it limps it.. i just want lil more horse and better fuel mileage.. thats why i ran it on 65 hp.. the 40 is just same milage i get when i run stock...
RE: Re: RE: 2004 GMC 2500- TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS
I have a LBZ and I run mine on the 120 tune. When I do this I get the best mileage, but at the same time I don't beat on it. On this tune I get apx. 20mpg.
Since you limped your tranny already it will be even easier for you to limp it again.

RE: Re: RE: 2004 GMC 2500- TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS
why doesnt the programmers tell anyone about limpin trannys.. i mean hell i thought the allison was the greatest tranny around...
RE: Re: RE: 2004 GMC 2500- TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS
The Allison tranny is one of the best on the market. I mean hell the Army uses it M1 Abrams Tank which is 70,000lbs.
The Allison in our truck is roughly good to about 450RWHP. With the 100HP or 120HP tune that puts the tranny at its limit with HP and TQ.
