my u7146 and my 2004 mustang gt

Post by grimwolf »

ok heres what

heres what i have

2004 ford mustang GT 4.6L v8 sohc
predator U7146, TWO tunes avaliable are factory hp tune and diablo tune

mods
c&l 85mm mass air meter with inlet tube and k&n filter
75mm acufab throttle body and plenum
Steeda under drive pullies
bassani 1 and 5/8ths mid length headers
bassani catless x pipe
SLP loudmouth II mufflers
ford 3.73:1 ring and pinion with trac loc rebuild kit

i have several questions.
the first question is
1. what is the difference between choosing diablo tune or factory hp tune when you can change options on each one? im not sure i understand the diffrence when the values are identical.

2. When you choose the diablo tune and then go to modify, if all you change is gearing, speed and rev limiters along with turning off the traction control will the rest of the tune still be the diablo tune?

3: regarding spark advance if i the answer to my second question is yes then would retarding the spark advance between 4000 and 7000 but leaving the values for 2000-4000 alone cause problems?

idealy id like to install the diablo tune but change the gears, speed and reve limiters and retard the spark advance two clicks to the retard position under the 4000-7000 rpm range simply because ive tried using several different fuels along with stp additives to boost the octane rating and i still detonate at high rpms in 5th gear and sometimes in lower gears at high rpms.. It is a romeo block and i know they are prone to detonation by default.

the place in Albany ny closed down so id have to drive to jersey to get a tune specific for my car, got a ball park figure on how much it would run me? i know i could just call them up but i figured im already writeting a novel here anyway i might as well ask anyway.

my last question is this
the following is a copy and paste from your site regarding ranges
what id like to know is when i choose diablo tune or factory hp tune and then choose modify are the values that show the ones that are going to be loaded or are those the current values that are in the STOCK tune.

Dual timing adjustment points (2000-4000 RPM / 4000-7000 RPM)
#
Timing table (+10% / -40%)
#
Dual fuel adjustment points (2000-4000 RPM / 4000-7000 RPM)
#
Fuel table (+40% / -15%)
#
Idle (+/- 20%)

Wow, you guys are tough!
Look, I monitor these forums and do my best to answer EVERY single post.
We do however get a ton of traffic here, and its not hard for us to be overwhelmed, especially around the weekends.
I saw this thread and purposely skipped it at first because it looked like it had ALOT of questions, and I wanted to try to bang out some quick answers. I meant to come back to this one, but I forgot.
Please forgive us, but know it was not done on purpose.

Thanks

sorry for jumping the gun i was just really frustrated and ive been farting around with this thing for a year before i decided to ask people about it and when i had sent an email to customer service i was told to retard the spark advance 10 percent but theres no numbers and then theres the confusion of where exactly is ten percent they were not very helpful via email..please note that I do understand your point and i will await your responses to my questions and i promise i wont be a jerk this time but also please understand ive had this tuner for a little over a year now and still have detonation across both power bands so its a little frustrating even with stock hardware on the motor im still haveing issues...again i understand you guys are busy and im sorry i jumped on your back about it not taking into consideration your point of view to answer as many as possible before the more complex ones.

1. Diablo tune is a tune developed on the dyno to improve performance and power output.
Factory hp tune is a copy of your stock tune that we allow you to modify if you desire., otherwise there are no changes to that tune from stock.
2.Yes, the rest of the tune will stay the same if that is all you modify.
3.This will not cause any problems, and sometimes may be necessary if you experience high rpm detonation.

Any changes shown in the adjustable parameters will take effect the next time you install a tune. When you open the parameter up, the value shown is the default for that tune. If you change it, it will be changed by the amount that you choose.

Thanks

thanks allot i appreciate the help. if if have any more issues ill just reply in this thread.
the aftermarket parts i have installed shouldnt make much of a diffrence right?
the reason i ask is that their all back on the car i only took them off for diagnostic reasons in trying to figure out what was up with the detonation. let me know if i should pull any of the parts off.
thanks again

Well, in all actuality some of the parts are likely causing some of the problems.
Keep in mind that the tunes provided were designed around a stock car. Once you go changing crucial elements like the MAF, a custom tune is often needed.
I am pretty sure that a custom tune on the dyno by a CMR dealer will net you some healthy wortwhile gains over your current setup.
