2004 Mach 1 - new u7146_mustang-9r05 crom not helping
Moderator: mikel
Yeah, I'm back to the stock intake. The MRT "Street Smart" CAI is a nice piece with it's (simulated) CF air box, but the transition rubber boot (from intake tube to throttle body) is now ripped. The material they made it out of is WAY too soft. It literally melts and, for lack of a better term, gets 'gummy' on the (metal) intake tube.
As you noted, I revved the car a couple times near the end of the datalog session essentially just to give it some substance.
I am a member of mach1registry.ORG - I trust you meant ORG rather than COM - no biggie. I am twogts4us on most forums (at one time my wife had an 01 GT and I had an 02 GT), but on mach1registry.org you'll find me as 'third charm'.
Mine is a 5 speed, and I had the TC turned off with the tune, but now, without any tune, I manually turn it off right after I start the car.
I've finally got some time this afternoon (wife's working, kids are back in school), so let me go do a bit of datalogging. I'll post em up shortly...
In the meantime, here's a pic of the motor, all dressed up!
Thanks!
Chris

Attached is a log of about 2:40 with a couple of full throttle runs - stock tune.
By the way, I'm not having that issue at 4700 RPMs with the stock tune. It was happening with the Diablo tune.
Thanks!

You also need to log KNK ST, LTFT 1 and 2, MAF V, MAF CNTS. Weren't you saying that you have a 160 thermostat? Why is it 206? Anyway get me those additional parameters... I would prefer you to log with the tune so I can see what the deal is as I have fixed some other MAch1's in the past and know what they are prone to doing...

OK, well I've put the canned tune in the Mach and did similiar data logging. See attached.
Driving Impressions: BAD. It's pinging, though only initially when trying to pull in a high gear, low speed from about 1800RPMs. But the biggest issue is the return of the 4700 RPMs curse. Something is going on like the fuel is cut off...it's similiar to TC kicking in, but I have TC turned off. And I'm not breaking traction anyway. It's a horrible, repeatable bog at around 4500RPMS +-.
Brian, et al - I'll go back and do additional datalogging with the parameters you've mentioned above. Do you have others to add to this list? Do you want these IN ADDITION to the ones I'm already logging?
We were speculating that I may have a 160 stat as in an earlier datalogging session, the temp never got above 160, but that was in the garage idling. So apparently, it just wasn't running long enough. In today's sessions, it did warm up as expected, so I guess it is an OEM stat. (I bought the car used with a few bolt ons, so its exact history is always somewhat of a guess)
Thanks!

Yeah looks like the stocker on the stat looks like it didnt go over 190 sorry about that. I have a 4th gear run of mine I have no issues, bu t I have a uncatted xpipe.

Just by looking at what you have there's definitely some issues. I would have to see the last tune wirtten... Select no when the window comes up and it will download it. Fuels not coming on fast enough and the rail pressure is rather inconsisent.

For my log you have to use the older cmr_dat 2.0 I am using a custom tune with 7r50d.Shaken wrote:Yeah looks like the stocker on the stat looks like it didnt go over 190 sorry about that. I have a 4th gear run of mine I have no issues, bu t I have a uncatted xpipe.

Brian, I removed the Diablo tune and returned to the OEM tune late yesterday (it's so bad it's perceived as dangerous to me) as we had to make a trip across town last night.sohfast94 wrote:Just by looking at what you have there's definitely some issues. But the tune I am using is simply the canned tune from the U7146 with the new 9r05 revision. Isn't this a file you have at your fingertips? Otherwise, I can load the tune in the car again, and then load it into the tuner, but, again, this is the canned tune (the only change I made was to turn off the TC).
It's a bit rainy today in the Tampa Bay area, so I won't be able to do any datalogging regardless. Do you still need those parameters you mentioned above...and, if so, do you need those IN ADDITION to the parameters I had already datalogged? And do you need any others? A complete list of what you want would be helpful, if you still want this datalogging done.
THANKS!
Chris

I've just installed the canned Diablo tune again and the only mod I made was to turn off TC. Then I brought it into the computer here and found not only the "backup tune", but a "custom tune" and "extra tune". I've attached both the custom tune and the extra tune. I'm rather confused as I only expected to see one other tune, besides the backup. Can anyone clarify this for me?

Just a quick update - I drove it tonight, and squeezed it. My god, it is just awful. Pinging badly at 3500 RPMs on up, and then that 'fall on your face' scenario at about 4500 RPMs... It's just terrible.
Brian, my question to you still stands - do you need datalogging info, and if so, what parameters do you want logged? Can you give me a complete list of what you want?
Thanks!

Informative links shaken thanks, I was planning on switching to a 180 in my 99 Cobra but it seems like many important computer functions happen at the 185 mark? I'm in Tampa with my fan settings at "On High 198.off 195"Shaken wrote:http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=9
I am pretty sure if you want to keep running your 160 degree thermostat you will need a custom tune. Unless it is just stuck open in that case you need to replace it. Download cmr dat in the download section and you can look at your logging on your pc. http://diablosport.com/CMR/software/Gen ... .1.8.5.exe
http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=64
please read this it will help you understand why you are getting detonation at low speeds the computer is trying to get the engine to 185 degrees. The strategies it uses to do this are listed. Since you cant change those strategies with a Predator you would have to rely on a custom tune. If you are running a 160 thermostat your Mach in this log never went over 162 degrees.
"On Low 190,off 188" Does this sound about right? And it's my understanding that my car comes stock with a 188 thermostat? That's what Advance Auto told me.. I've heard 190,192,195?? Anybody know for sure? thanks!

You should have a menu in the datalogger that says advanced WOT... that's what you need to be logging.

MUCH IMPROVED!!!
Attached is a log file from a couple of WOT shots. With the new file Kevin sent it is 100% better. I can still get it to ping in 4th gear, trying to mat the gas pedal from 1800RPMs, but I can understand and live with that. Up top, it was simply a beast during those two runs I just made. No more 4500 RPM bog, awesome power, now I just need better traction...
The only mod to the tune before loading was turning off the TC.
Take a look and give me any thoughts, feedback, etc.
THANK YOU!!!

RE: MUCH IMPROVED!!!
I just wanted to share with all the Diablo customers out here that I am, once again, a delighted customer. Kevin and Brian have gone above and beyond to reach out to me, give me the lastest and greatest available assistance and ensure I was happy. It's this type of service that will keep me coming back and keep me in the Diablo camp for life.
My car is a completely different animal now. Now can you folks help me find some traction? After just walking off the line, slipping quietly into 2nd gear granny style, low RPMs, then mashing the loud pedal, it winds up quickly, then begins spinning the tires at around 30-35 mph (and I've got stock gears and 315/35 rubber out back!)
It's a gas and I thank you guys again for your superb support.
