Check engine lite and 0 oil press in this weeks extreme cold

Post by ranger_dog »

Anyone ever experience your check engine light and your oil pressure reading zero when the temps drop like they have this past week? The truck is back to stock tune and at the shop now because of this and I am deployed. Trying to see if there are any reasons, other than a bad pump that this could happen. The truck was last driven after an oil change that was with 15W-40 or 50 Mystic JT8 synethic oil with Lucas additive in it. Probably 2 or 3 quarts Lucas total. I deployed a few months ago and I had the stuff premixed for summer use, then the wife used it to change the oil on Christmas at her dad's. It worked fine then, she drove it home towing a horse trailer about 180 miles. Since then, not sure but don't think she's drove it much or at all. True air temps dropped to -10 below or there abouts. I am sure the oil is too thick, but my thoughts are that would cause high pressure not low? Am I thinking correctly? Hoping it's electronic, and really hoping its warrantee covered (only 50,000 on the truck) Any help would be appreciated, just to keep from getting screwed over by the dealer while I am gone and she deals with it herself. Thanks.

good luck with the G-56 converion u wont be diapointed, but back to the topic at hand the oil sounds like its to thick ( for lack of a better word) I would switch to amsoil and u wont have that problem and u can go 25,000miles between oil changes. JMO

Mine just got back from the dealer with a new injector. When I checked the codes before I took it in had a low oil pressure code up. I got them to check it and they said it's a normal thing when the temp. drops the sending unit doesn't pick enough pressure on startup. It drops down to around 265-270psi on the gauge when it gets below -35C. If the oil is warranty approved I imagine a lighter oil would probably help.

Oil pressure sending unit failure. Pretty common to these engines from what I hear. Wish I was home to install it myself but alas, I am not so there's $300 I won't get back! (she also let the diesel gel up and they got her for a new filter @ $85) Oh well, time to get her another vehicle so I can continue to play with this one.
