2002 7.3 diesel stalling,missing,no codes found

1,pt.no.114036

2,v-7r19d

3,2002,ford f250 7.3 diesel
since installing the tow tune i had the engine light come on when going up hill with my 24ft trailer,it would run like crap loss of power the light would go out and would be ok till the next hill there was never any codes present i took it to a dealership and they said the light came on because of the over boosting the turbo, when trailer not on truck light never came on,now i have a problem of truck stalling when initially turned on then ok for a few hours around town driving then at 1500 rpm the engine would stall and most time would start right back up,then some time it would miss and then stall and then it would be a right bitch to start when started engine light would come on and stay on untill reset be the key,try to read codes none found took out tow tune put back stock tune ok for two days then same problem, when trying to start after it was missing black smoke would come from exhaust,it gives no warning when stalls it has left me stranded in oncoming traffic has anyone got any ideas,p.s.now have really crappy mpg

check the crank trigger... that's probably what's causing it... as said in an earlier post it should be grey if not it needs to be replaced. The older black ones are known to cause these issues.

Sounds like a CPS (cam position sensor) to me. You should check to see if your truck was part of the CPS recall.

Because it's an intermittent failure and not enough to set a code... If it were to set a code then the sensor would have failed and the truck would not run...
