knocking or detonation at WOT

Post by draykas »

I have a 2006 mustang gt automatic with cl7140 tuner. I have installed c&l racer intake under drive pulleys and BBK throttle body. recently at wide open throttle it starts to knock or ping and lose power. I am running 93 octane racer tune firm shift. I have seen some notes about bumping fuel at wide open throttle and pulling global timing. I am running 91 octane as that is all thats available with a octane boost(NOS octane boost says 60 points or 6 octane levels) any help is appreciated. I have been trying to find dyno but not any local for diablo tuner

The 93 tune is too aggressive for use with 91 octane.
Lower the global timing parameter by 2* and you should be OK.

I did that and it still is there! I also tried the c&l racer tune(not firm shift) and it is for 91 octane still does it. I did talk to a dealer in St Louis for diablo who I am talking to about purchasing a kit for my 250 diesel and he says it may be the torque converter locking and unlocking? any ideas

OK, are you seeing KR in your datalogs, or just hearing something?
The spark curve in the 91 tune is VERY mild and should not be enough to cause any audible detonation.
Are you using quality fuel like Amoco or Mobil?
If so, try pulling 2° from the global spark parameter and see how that works.

Raspy exhaust, rattles and some headers can sound like detonation but I don't see those in your mods. You have the option to pull 6 degrees of global spark advance as a test. If that doesn't get rid of it there is a good chance it may not be detonation you are hearing. Either way it sounds like there is an issue with the car and one place to start is the A/F ratio.

I pulled 5 from global and ran a ford IDS/VCM diagnostics datalog on computer from work it does not show any data on the KS1 or KS2 sensors and shows engine running fine. I have not done any exhaust mods . what should I do in regards to A/F ratio to adjust?

First thing to do is see what the current A/F is before attempting to adjust it.
Did you try putting all the timing back in and checking the knock sensors like that, to see if it was really knocking?

can the diablotuner monitor A/F ratio in data logger? or do need other equipment?

No, but you can get a general idea of the state of tune from monitoring the LTFTs and the O2 voltages.

okay I checked fuel air mixtures and ran for 2 hours on dyno. the problem is that the stock spark plugs got too hot, I found out that ford has a service b ulliten out about this and removed all parts and they replaced them. reinstalled parts and all runs well 13.01 1/4 mile .681 reaaction :-) looking for 12s
