Vehicle surges\hesitatesor at highway speed

Post by whedgepeth »

U7135
9-16.crom 2.1.0.9
2009 Dodge Challenger R/T 5.7
5000 miles
I had installed the 93 oct with CAI (trueflow XDI) performance tune and every thing seemed fine at first until I took the car on the highway at crusing speed 65-70 MPH 2100-2200 RPM. Every to 30 seconds to a minute the car would hesitate and then lurch forward all this happens in 1/2 second and is enough for your head to move back a little. It hadn't done it before the tune. IOt only happens when you reach and matain a constant speed. I egnored it for about a week or so and the wife asked me about it so I removed the canned perfomance tune 93 CAI and reinstalled the factor tune and now the problem with the car hesitating and lurching has stopped. Has anyone else had this same problem and what could it possible be causing this? Thanks

Its caused by the MDS. The torque management is reduced with the tune, so the engagement is more obvious.

yeah, the same thing happens with the GM's... as Mike said, it's due to the TM being removed from the engine side... the cure is to get a custom tune created to put back specific TM settings to stock values - then the surging is gone. I've done this for several Monte/Impala guys - but not sure how to do it for Dodge.

Hit up Johan or MikeL and see if they can whip up something for ya....

Mike is it possible to get a custom tune or a new update to eliminate this TM problem. I don't know how many customers of Diablo's Predator have have the 09 R/T 5.7 Challenger but all of them must be having the same problem that I have. It seems like it would be less work intensive to include that in the next update or was in in the last updateU7135-9r17?

Johan has been doing custom tunes for guys with full torque management for a while. It solves the problem, but since the full torque management is in effect, it also hurts performance. Most guys just turn MDS off and leave it in 8 cylinder mode all the time.

Mike I reinstalled the perfomance program with 93 oct & CAI and turned MDS off as you suggested and it solved the problem, thanks again for the info. This Challenger runs really good now.
