Can the Predator overwrite the ECM code?

Post by txhotrod »

I recently installed a Predator (U7130) into my 2005 Dodge cummins truck. I purchased this unit used, I had trouble installing it, called technical support, and when I was online with tech it started installing just like it was supposed to. But after that I am having a slew of problems. I have no accelerator pedal, the temp sensor says its out of range, I have two P-codes they are P0118 ECT sensor voltage too high and 0628 lift pump low voltage. I spoke with Jason at Diesel Nut and he suggested that I get a reflash from the dealer. I did that and it didn't help.I replaced the APPS but that did no good, Now they have just called me and are telling me that the computer that I have in the truck is not the right one. Since I bought the Predator used I just checked the VIN# in the unit and its not mine. Is it possible that the unit overwrote the original program? And if so how do I fix it? You can reach me at 409-682-4754

I picked up the truck and they told me that someone installed the wrong computer, and they wanted $3000.00 to fix it. Now I know why they call them "stealers". I tried to explain to them that I just needed a reflash with the proper VIN# but they wouldn't listen, they just wanted to make money...sorry sob's!! I did call Daiblo and explained the problem to them and they were very helpful. So does anyone know of any company in the Houston area that can do a complete reflash with the proper vin code?

Ok got the ECM back and reinstalled in the truck. I have acceleration, but I have lost the part of the dash cluster where the transmission position reads, and the tow switch light. Also when I put the vehicle in drive it acts like someone is standing on the brake at the same time. Never had these problems before, could it be I fried some curcuits in the ECM after all? I cannot pull up any codes at all. I really can't afford to take this thing back to the dealer. Anybody got any ideas? Do I just have a lemon truck and need to sell it?

Maybe the ECU is corrupted, I also lost my shift indicators and the truck ran like crap after a bad Smarty upload. I had to replace mine, I got it from here: http://www.autocomputerexchange.com/Sea ... SEL/1999/1 they are remanufactured, mine is working great now...

Thats correct, you need to call. I originally found my ECU on Ebay from this same company for my 03, not sure how high in the years they go....

Man, there has to be an issue in that truck, something besides the PCM got whacked when you encountered this issue.

The reflash went fine, nothing about the PCM seemed wrong.

Very strange that the throttle came back, and that there are now new issues...
Almost makes me think there are other modules in the truck that are improperly programmed, but we only talk to the PCM...

I tried that too, but the dealer told me that after the program is burned in thats all they can do. I had to get a new computer. I installed it yesterday and everything is working fine. Now I'm not too sure I want to chance installing a programmer again. That computer wasn't cheap! Good Luck to you and hope that yours can be fixed with a new flash.

Where did you buy it from and how much did you pay? I might try sending it back to diablo and see if they can fix it.

I got mine from AutoComp out of Houston,TX it was $695 I like them because they dont charge you for a core unless yours is unrepairable. But I sent mine to Diablo first and it came back as a manual also and the dealer could not overwrite it, so I was screwed. I hope Diablo takes notice of the problems that we are having and can get the issue fixed before anyone else has to suffer the same fate. I really could have used that money elsewhere, ya know what I mean.
