U7170 problems

Post by xrs-tc »

I tried to install the 9R04 crom in my U7170 predator and it gets 3/4 of the way through the write then says too much data on the predator screen. After you unplug it says file corrupt any suggestions.

you need to send it in for a hardware up-grade.The older tools dont have enough memory for the new croms.

That predator is the older version and you cannot update it to the new uploads, but they do have an update for it that they can email you, also if you send it in for 100$ they will update to new hardware and the new downloads. Hope this helps
Its not what you buy, it what you build.

predator programmer, adjustable HPOP module, Overboost eliminator, intake, 5 inch exhaust, banks wheel, built trans, manual lockup switch, 315's and 100hp sticks. 400hp and 900ft lbs to the ground.

lost me here

Post by tntenter »

So if i get this correctely my older u7170 is only good for version v.7r19d
if i want to get any newer "better udates" it costs $100.00. If this is correct than the Predator is like any other electronics, buy it, take it home, take it out of the box and it's out of date. Great sounds like my pc and cell phone. The ability to update via the internet kinda seems a moot point then. I understand that 100.00 is still cheaper than the price of something newer but give me a break, more money to upgrade my programmer? :?

well, the older predators have been in production for 6+ years. In the meantime, Ford kept releasing new calibrations and therefore requiring the predator to be updated many times with more information. So, for many users over the past several years, the internet updates were not moot. Plus, the older predators have fewer options and abilities than the newest update that requires more memory to function and support for the latest calibrations.

It is a bummer that your hardware needs the upgrade for the latest updates but there is no way around it and it was not forseeable when the initial tool was designed way back. At least they will retrofit the hardware rather than make you buy a new one.
