I'm New-Give Me Peace Of Mind

Post by SgtRick »

I just bought a 2007 Ram 2500 with the 5.9L Cummins and auto tranny. I just ordered the Predator for it too. I've been reading this forum and seeing that some are having problems with some of the programs/versions. I'm mainly looking at the tow program hoping to gain a little horsepower and torque and fuel economy when towing. I also wouldn't mind a mild program that gives me the same for normal driving. Is there a version that I can load when I get my programmer that will ensure I don't have any problems?

The programmer default tunes are very safe in my opinion, (Tow, Performance and Extreme) its the modified tunes that people request that sometimes need to be refined a little.

Even if the tunes are safe, I read there's a concern that the dealer may not do warranty work because they can tell a programmer tune had been installed. Is this issue being resolved?

unless your bringing your truck in for major repairs to the engine the dealer has no reason to start looking into your ecm to see if a tuner was used, and being is your truck is so new the keycount thing that they somtimes can detect probaly wouldnt showupanyway.i wouldnt worry about it to much.

I ran the tow tune and seen a 3-4 mpg gain and pulled my tow hauleralot easier than when stock. I ran the performace tune around town and seen a 5-6mpg jump. no problems with either tune with the way it ran

I would assume thats the overhead, I got a 2 mpg with the performance toon hand calced but the overhead says like 26mpg or so.

Went from 16.1 to 21.8 and no i am not using the overhead, its useless. That reading was after almost 2k miles of probably 90% hwy so thats as real as it gets!!!! Oh, and i am in a early 04 and i hear they tend to get better mileage than the 04.5 and up. But who really knows.

My actual mileage has not changed at all but the overhead shows about 6 mpg higher than I am really getting when I use the puck. The overhead numbers have come down now that I am running the standard tunes without the Puck but judging by miles run the mileage has not changed...

You havent had that truck too long though. How many miles now? I bet later down the road you will notice. My mileage i speak of was before the rebuild 3 weeks ago at 106k miles. I now have 900 miles logged on rebuild and i have noticed a drop of about .2-.3mpg in 900miles. We will see....... But that mileage would be .5mpg off give or take every 1500-2000 miles. I wish everyone could get that same result but all vehichles are different. I just hope i dont get jipped since the rebuild.....

Dealers claiming to void your auto warranty!!!!

I'm glad you brought this question up. Federal Law (the FTC - Federal Trade Commission) makes it illegal for vehicle manufacturers to declare your warranty to be void because you've added aftermarket performance parts. What do do if your warranty is denied...

The law specifically stipulates that it is the vehicle manufacturer's responsibility, and not yours, to prove that any problem they decide not to cover due to vehicle modifications (and is normally covered under the warranty) is due to the specific modification/parts that's been made.

And even then, only the parts that are affected by the modification can be declared void of warranty and the remainder of the vehicle still stands under the manufacturers warranty.

Sound confusing. Think I'm making it up? SEMA Specialty Equipment Market Association is dedicated to preserving your and automotive parts manufacturers rights to produce and use performance and aftermarket parts on your vehicle(s). http://sema.org SEMA currently sponsors and maintains the Consumer's Bill of Rights.

They post several federal agencies contacts and phone numbers should a dealer or vehicle manufacture claim that by installing after market parts you have automatically voided your vehicles warranty. Remember the law is out to protect you the consumer, so don't be affraid to look into it.

All these laws and rights are due to a specific legal court battle fought out in the supreme court known as The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2301-2312(C)).

Here's another detailed link that will help you see the full act/law Wikipedia.com

I prey that DiabloSport will link to these links directly off their home pages to put all the other consumers - who are too affraid to purchase because of warranty questions - minds at ease.

For those of you who disagree, I simply say read the laws mentioned above and make your own decisions or consult with legal council for clarification. My auto dealer tried to pull that "crap" on me and my attorney quickly made them revoke thier statements of "voided warranty".

this is true to a point. i'm not sure how the automatics respond to the added fuel and timing, but my 6 spd shot the EGT's through the roof when i got on it climbing a hill and that was with my gooseneck empty. it weighs around 5300. my suggestion is a pyrometer and boost gauge for starters. see how your EGT's react. if you are unable to keep them down get a boost fooler to get your boost pressure up. the higher boost will move the heat better and give you full use of the tune. this is just my $.02. i'm a truck driver and i watch gauges constantly, i like to know what my motor is doing so i don't melt it down. a couple hundred dollars in gauges is better than a couple thousand when the pistons melt.

Amen there........ Attached are a few pics of what could happen if you are careless when dealing with excess power. Mine wasnt careless but a faulty gauge. I run twin cp3, a5k, 140hp twigs, modified fass, ported polished head, fire rings, etc, its built.... And this still happened. Hopefully you guys will enjoy cuz my wallet sure didnt :( Case in point, if you add power add gauges and keep a close eye on what you are doing and you will be fine. And if your pyro isnt moving almost as fast as your rpms somethings probably not right, trust me,. I am not trying to scare anyone i am just showing what could happen. My truck is very heavily modded and it was to be expected sooner or later. The odds of a stocker with a box are not as likely but possible if not respected. Oh yeah, i added my predator and puck today at 950 miles after rebuild but havent really opened it up yet.........
