Strange noise under heavy accel/wot after slp diablo tune

I have noticed on a few occasions that under wot my car seems to be making sort of a poppy/creaking sound. On one occasion I could have swore that I thought I saw black smoke for a brief moment under wot as well? Not sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me though or not. But as far as the sounds, it almost seems like it's coming from the tranny but I am now wondering if it could be pinging in the engine. It's hard to hear over the exhaust during wot but I can't tell since I don't really know what "pinging" sounds like. This has been occurring after installation of the slp performance tune on my vehicle. I tried turning TM back on within the canned tune and it seemed to reduce the occurrence of this strange sound. What am I hearing, any ideas? The black smoke may or may not be an issue. The sound is strange but not occurring often.

what tune are you running? what fuel are you running? have you logged any to see if you have Knock Retard (pinging)?

It's the "Slp performance tune". I understand it requires a minimum of 91 octane and that's what I run (fuel from shell?). I haven't logged any as of yet and don't even really know how to. Do I connect the handheld while in park with the engine running? Then just start driving? I don't have an interface kit as of yet so I'll have to just watch the screen from what I'm understanding from this forum. What should I be looking for?

Im not sure if this is the cause of your problem or not man but DO NOT run shell gasoline. Im sure anyone on here will tell you the same. Its a killer for engines... As far as the noise, cant say much, Im new here to and Im just getting into the whole logging and adjusting things myself. I will say this, the guys on here are great... Very informative and helpful. Good luck with the issue and enjoy the tuner... It'll make you fall in love with your car all over again...

yeah... do not use Shell gas.. it's crap... it causes a lot of knock retard/pinging/knocking

you want to use GOOD gas, from mobil, exxon, sunoco, amoco or bp...

Well see where I live I can't find anything but Petro Canada, Esso, Shell, Mr. Gas, Pioneer, Canadian Tire. That's all I can think of. There has to be good gas here somewhere.

use the Esso
