2008 rcsb 5.3 smoking

Ive been noticing that when i start my truck cold and rev it i get a decent amount of black smoke coming out the exhaust, but i put 5000 miles on my oil change and it will still at the full mark. Is this gas from running rich at idle when cold? or do i need to unintall my diablo and take her into the dealership?

black smoke generally means unburnt fuel... more than likely running rich.

when your truck initially starts up its going to be using more fuel than needed. Once it reaches the optimal temperature range the fuel consumption will be much lower than when you first started up your truck. Here is a picture from my course material at school. Why would you rev your engine when it is cold? One of the worst things you can do for your engine.

reving the engine to 4000 rpm a few moments after start up in 85 degree weather isnt gonna hurt a thing, its not THAT cold and the oil is flowing...point is this black smoke shouldnt be there...it wasnt like that when i bought the truck.

actually in ANY degree weather revving your engine at all at startup hurts it. theres a reason when it warms up its called operating temperature.

as for the smoke i can think of quite a few reasons why it would smoke, but none of them would create it on cold run and syop smoking once its warm. only thing that makes any sense at all to me is a worn ring thats letting oil past it when cold but expanding enough to reseal the chamber once its warm but even that sounds like a longshot to me so i dont know

just keep reving it when its cold, it'll eventually smoke ALOT and then it'll quit running
