U7191 and 05 Vette - Traction Control Question

Post by 100LL »

My question is: I've read here and other forums that TM is nearly gone (for the manual trans equipped cars) in the Preditor tune for the Vette, but does this also effect traction control?

I recently installed the 91 octane tune on my 05 Vette, base model with manual trans and no mods. I've driven it a hundred miles or so with this tune and have not screwed with any of the parameters, and the tune doesn't feel like there's any noticeable increase in performance.

Last weekend I hopped on the freeway using the same on-ramp I've taken hundreds of times and got on the car pretty hard. This time, with traction control ON, the tires lit right up and continued to spin all the way through first gear. This had never happened before, usually T/C would not allow ANY noticeable wheel spin.

Not complaining, just want to know if T/C is disabled or altered in the Preditor tune.

Thanks,

Dan

well, on my Monte (also U7191 Predator), the traction control is not modified in any way - I still have to manually hit the button to turn it off.

As far as I know, there are no changes to the TC in the tunes.

Same thing on my 05 GTO. Traction control does not limit wheel spin after the Predator tune. Doesnt matter if it is on or off. I thought the plug became lose and I checked but it isnt. The DIC shows if I turn it off and when the wheels spin it will display "low traction' so I know there is a connection there. Before the tune the TC would push your foot back and control the throttle. Traction control does not work after Predator tune.

An suggestions on why?

Thanks for the info. Maybe this is a newly discovered bug in the software? It would be nice to hear from others who have tried it.

Mike: Is there anyone at Diablo that would know for sure or could look at the program to tell?

Thanks.

I just installed the 91 tune on my 05 GTO 6spd today. All I have are JBA tit-ceram shorties, custom cat-back with Spin-Techs and a K&N open cone (off road). The TC definetely still works on mine! When I initially took it out and romped on it, of course it accelerated about the same, ECM hadn't learned yet.

After about 30 miles of varied driving, I romped on it the same way, but this time, the motor pulled much harder (even sounds different now - better) and the TC worked to some degree (switch enabled), but I truly don't think it could keep up now, if that's even possible...? The tires broke loose slightly banging third, BUT not the way they do with TC off. Just my two cents.

Love this thing !! BTW, this is my first post...

Mixed 100 oct "76 race gas" with 91 oct "76 prem gas" for approximately a 50/50 mix - oh crap - this pulls like a raped ape!! I cannot wait to install the "93 octane tune!!!!!!!!!!!"

TC Removed

I am also having severe traction problems after installing the 91 octane tune on my 05 6sp manual Vette. I jumped on it hard after the light changed and the ass end came completly around on me. Scared the daylights out of me. Road was clear and dry and lots of tread left on the tires. I'm wondering why the power didn't shut down after I started to lose it.

I would think active handling would have kicked in, not TC. TC is completely different from TM--killing TM should not in any way affect TC which is a function of ABS sensors for differing tire speeds, not the ECM via rpms. Active Handling is based on slip angle and lateral G. Different dynamics.

Hi Mike or Johan,

Any further official word on this issue?

Also, to the AH comment, since the functions of AH is to limit or otherwise influence the throttle (as well as brakes) being applied during a loss of control "event", is it possible that whatever Diablo did to reduce TM could have stepped on code that would also be used for TC and AH? For the most part, isn't TM just the ECM chopping throttle or timing or both to keep the driver from breaking something?

I have a new appreciation for AH, a couple of months ago, before the Preditor tune, it saved me thousands of $$ in repair when my STST (short term stupidity trim) pegged at -26% for a few milliseconds on a freeway on-ramp.

I hope AH is not affected, if it is I'll probably go back to the stock tune and use the Preditor for adjusting whatever I can in it.
