Could my canned tune be causing my battery to rundown?

Post by oddwraith »

I know this sounds like a stupid question (that usually means that it is a stupid question) but I'm just wondering because after a day or two of not driving the Hawk the battery seems to be dead and it won't start? I still have lights and power but not enough to turn the starter I guess? Could be the starter too I suppose?

But could the pcm cause a module or and other device to stay active when the car is turned off? Or is this simply not possible? Thanks for you advice again guys. Cheers!

How old is the battery?

Do you have a volt meter? Check the battery to see how many volts? Some garages can do a test on the battery to see if it has any amps left to it. You may have volts but no amps.

I would drive the car to Auto Zone or any other parts store and have them test the battery for you. It only takes a few minutes for them to hook it up and let the battery scanner tell you good or bad.

Nah, new battery today, and last year. New alternator last week, new battery side-post connector bolts, new ign. cylinder and keys, and cleaned up all grounds. Had a full sysytem charge/load test, parasitic drain test all to no avail. I'm currently running without the fuses for the headlight motors since I feel that I may have a trouble motor causing drain. It's not closing (flip up) all the way down and I feel like maybe the car doesn't know it's off so it leaves the circuit open or grounded out maybe? EIther way I am in the troubleshooting process at the moment and just wanted to rule out the possibility of my tune affecting this condition? Thanks for the replies guys. :)

Try this. Stick your stock tune back in and let it sit for a few days and see if you can get the battery drain to repeat itself without the tune in. I really don't see why the canned tune would be draining your battery, but I guess anything is possible. Rule out these easy things first and then start diving head first into the more complex BS. If for some reason you get a battery drain with the stock tune in then I would go to the dealership and get your pcm reflashed with any updates. They should do it for free because battery drain is reason for a reflash. Just be sure your stock tune is in the car.

a tune wouldn't cause the battery to drain... you have a parasite somewhere suckin' that battery down... electrical gremlins somewhere for sure..

not tune related...
