clearing the code like he did won't stop it from coming back on...
it needs to be disabled with a custom tune, along with other codes since you installed headers...
still have the catalytic converters on the car?? if not, things need to be disabled for those as well...

No cats.It was cleared with a custom tune, but came back on after awhile. My tuner James Henson from HensonPerformance in Alabama will be contacting ya'll also. Its really weird because we looked over the tune and where he disabled the code and the engine light still comes up. I also tried disconnected rear o2's but nothing.

you can't disconnect them.. they still need to be hooked up/connected to the wiring harness...
the codes need to be set to "3" in order to report no fault for your 2004 gto...
and any time the pcm is flashed with a tune, any and all trouble codes that were present before will all get cleared and you will have no light.. just like disconnecting the battery... doesn't mean the trouble codes were actually disabled in the custom tune...

06MonteSS please note he said he dyno tuned the car. I am a CMR dealer and used the CMR software to tune the car. All the noted switches for the rear O2's are set to 3. I have contacted Mike L and we are awaiting Johan's return to verify there isn't a possible mapping problem in the software. -j

do you have the latest 4808 cmr and the latest updated templates???
I have done many 04 gto's as well, and they haven't had any code issues...
hmmm, interesting...
could you post up a copy of his original backup and the custom tune file to check out and take a look at??

Hey guys, we havent resolved this yet. still getting the Po161 code after rear o2's were tuned out with custom tune. Any feed back is appreciated. Front o2's are operating with extensions.

Is there anything else that would be throwing this code except o2 sensor?? bad wiring?

if the wiring is bent/broken/frayed/burnt through, that would cause the issue as well...
again, if you post up the tune files -original backup and custom - they can be looked at to check the settings you have in there...

i dont have a adapter for the predator. if the wiring to the back o2's are damaged would it matter since the rear o2's have been tuned out anyway?

yeah, if the heater circuit codes weren't disabled... like I said man... can't really tell what was done or not done without seeing a the tune files...
and I know there is no mapping issue with the tune template, because I do custom tunes for these cars almost every other week and don't have issues with the codes...
are they using the latest 4808 version CMR software and the latest updated templates?? there were template updates on 12/13/2010 and also on 6/7/2011... your cmr tuner can log in and go to the CMR Advanced Tuning section and go to the GM forum in there and there are sticky posts where he can get the lastest templates from if he doesn't have them...
