I think despite his critiques, he'd still say he made the best choice for a new vehicle :)
..although squeaks and rattles would drive me nuts...
The best affordable choice. Sometimes I wish I'd have just accepted the bigger payment and 4 times the insurance cost (!) and bought an AMG E63.

At some point this spring or summer I'll end up gutting the interior and sound deadening everything to get rid of the rattles. Not sure about the squeaky roof though. Thats the chassis flexing, so nothing short of subframe connectors is gonna fix that, I don't think.

I know I'll need new wheels next year( warranty runs out) and I keep trying to talk myself into a car but it just doesn't look possible. Did you try for the brake swap route and how bad did they balk?

They don't think its the brakes. They're claiming its a dirt build up between the wheels and brakes, so they cleaned the wheel mounting faces and the rotor hub faces. For now, it worked, but I expect to start hearing it again in a week or two. Then I can complain again and get it fixed the right way.

Is it brake dust or road grim

Rust. Apparently is common, because GM has added it to their services, even oil changes, to pull the wheels and clean the mounting surfaces.

Really does not sit well with me. They give free maintenance for 4 years, but what about after that? Am I gonna have to pull the wheels every few months and clean the rotors and wheel backs?

I gotta see if I can find the gaskets BMW uses between the wheels and rotors to prevent them from sticking together. No metal to metal contact, no clicking.

Is it because of the dis similar metals causing galvanic rust? If so I'd try that brake quiet spray epoxy. Or maybe swap out the rotor for an aftermarket manufacturers. I've always hated gm rotors. The last two silverados I had the brakes squeaked like a sum b. swapped in top grade rotors no more squeak.

Could be. I know the rotors are co-cast. The hats and the braking surfaces are different metals. The hats are aluminum and the outer rotors are iron. I thought that was the problem, the aluminum and iron expanding at different rates. But what do I know? The wheels are forged aluminum, with the graphite powdercoat. I wouldn't think aluminum and aluminum would have a reaction, but again, what do I know? I didn't finish engineering school, so I could be way off.

I'm not gynocologist. But I do know that aluminum on iron will cause corosion.
