RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Update on DRC
Gains were similar to the previous trucks we have tuned, the 08 got an 87 octane tune and picked up a solid 10-15 rwhp throughout the RPM range, with big 20+ ft/lb gains in the low to mid RPMs, and the 08 got tuned for 93 octane and saw +20-25 depending on the RPM and an equal amount of torque gain throughout the RPM range.
Thanks
Mike
Thanks

"TCM support" means what?
Mikel;
When you say the tuner has "TCM support" what, exactly, does that mean? Most of your competitors have some TCM adjustment as well (firmer shifts, higher 1-2, 2-3 at WOT, etc.). Does this tuner go beyond that?

Re: "TCM support" means what?
The Predator itself may not have that much more adjustment but with custom tuning your CMR dealer has access to the entire TCM calibration, with over 350 parameters that can be edited to make the tranny do just about anything you could ever want, which nobody else can do.Jebb wrote:Mikel;

That sounds great Mike but I wonder what that does to the tranny's life span since they are not built strong enough for our motors anyway... Just a thought....

Well, adding a bit of line pressure to keep them from slipping during shifts will make them live longer....

RE: Re: "TCM support" means what?
Yeah now that you mention that I did read that somewhere... not to get too far off in left field (but I think it's kinda related), I also read that some guys were destroying their tranny going through the 1/4 when it shifted from either 3-4 or maybe it was 4-5 (doubt 4-5 since that would mean a much higher speed), does this have anything to do with the "2nd prime" trouble or will increased line pressure help that too? Sorry if none of that makes sense, I'm not too keen on tranny's and the new TCM controlled ones even less.....
Re: RE: Re: "TCM support" means what?
What tranny do you guys have? The ancient 4 speeds (48RE)?HemiSilva wrote:That sounds great Mike but I wonder what that does to the tranny's life span since they are not built strong enough for our motors anyway... Just a thought....
The newer 5 speeds are rated to handle 580ft/lbs over 100k miles.
Re: RE: Re: "TCM support" means what?
We have the 5 speeds, I think they are the 45's. I'm only going off of what I've read from the HTC forum as I have thankfully not had the experience.Mike_Levy wrote:What tranny do you guys have? Oh, so they're not the same 5 speeds as the cars/Jeeps use? We have the Mercedes 5 speed, W5A580. Thats the one with the 580ft/lb rating. No clue what the other one is.

We use 545RFE trans....I belive they start to break around 450+ ft lb. Many who run them on strokers or FI strokers kill them. You happen to see videos of the people who kill them doing power breaking as well. LOL. No wonder. If you find a way to keep them cool plus stay out of 2nd prime down shifting they will last longer. Some people who run HO apps will change the trans pan to hold more ATF and increase there trans cooler size. This will keep them around 120-140 depending upon abuse.
I think the key would be to increase line pressure and delete 2nd prime downshifting with a TCM tune.

I've had our tuner going through to figure out how to disable the 2nd gear prime downshift, as I understand that is a major breaking point.....he 'thinks' he has it figured out, but we need to test it on a few more trucks...electricmarquis wrote:We use 545RFE trans....I belive they start to break around 450+ ft lb.
