Jfleming41 wrote:Don, thank you for all of your hard work in getting this to us. I have only used the 100hp tune very nice throttle response. I put 400mi on the truck and I am averaging 17.6 mpg so far. I will use the tow tune over the weekend towing the boat 7500lb and let you know how that goes.

Thanks again
No problem..happy to help!

I might have had too much fuel in the mid range for towing on the 60hp, i like to ramp it in which gives in great throttle response but is probably causing the bucking..let me know!

Hi Don,
I have VXCF5H5 and previously ran 9r07. When I loaded 9r10 I immediately noticed a significant difference in engine noise. 9r07 is much louder than 9r10 any reason it migh be? Also any idea as to power difference between the two, I never saw a dyno graph of 9r07?

Probably injection timing related. The previous tunes weren't putting out the greatest numbers. The new 100hp tune puts out an extra 100 ft lbs. horsepower is increased but i forget what it was before.

What are your thoughts about the newest tunes from ford as related to power? I have been thinking about taking it in and getting it updated to prevent FICM damage due to the inductive heating method in use with VXCF5H5. Also been considering getting the FICM programmed with a hybrid program that has the latest inductive heating method and broader FICM timing like in early 2003. Supposedly this is the best of both worlds. Any thoughts?

from a tuning stand point, the new vxcf7 put down more power then the other cal ids stock. Its also what i primarily focused on when i did these tunes. My only complaint with the cal id is lag down low, but i believe i can fix that in the tune, seems to be timing related. Older cal ids ran the timing retarded quite a bit more down low then the vcxf7 stuff, which is turn created more heat and i believe spun the turbo a little quicker giving you a little more stand still/pedal down "umphf". I would suggest upgrading, its not a bad cal by any means

Don, I used the 60hp tune to tow a 7500lb boat through the mountains at 80+ outside air, the EGT seem about 80deg F higher then they use to; but still only hit the 1250 mark a couple of times, fuel mileage was down about 1.5 gpm to 14.2. I have yet to use the tow tune, I have a trip planned in a few weeks with the 13K lb fifth-wheel over the mountains, I will let you know how that goes. I am still getting right around 17.5 using the 100hp tune as a daily driver.

I have a question the bucking while towing are they tied to the vxcf7 cal id? or the previous ones? I was wondering if I should run the tow tune for a while before the trip. Any thoughts?

Thanks again.

No I dont believe they are tied to that cal ID only, i could be wrong though. The main differences between the cal id's is the injector timing tables, hence why you could be seeing higher EGT's. I tried to customize each with its own timing tables so that I wouldn't cram a ton of timing into one cal ID and not another. Have I wrote you any custom tunes Jflem? Might wanna hit me up in and email with your ori, Ive sent a few out but haven't gotten any feedback, but since i know you will be towing, it might be worth your while.
