U7164 new install throwing codes

Post by Dbro »

Recently purchased a U7164 and installed economy 50 hp program in hopes of gaining fuel economy, also installed an AFE dry filter stage 2 kit as I work in dusty conditions and opted for a cleanable filter over factory. It seems under hard throttle (up a hill not towing) I get 2 codes P2002 Particulate trap below efficiency threshold Bank 1 and P1000 OBD systems reading test not completed.I have versionV9RO3 (999dcc9) with the following calibrations Unit 1 8C3A-14C204-AK Unit 2 7C3A-14C337AG.Any suggestions, assistance would be appreciated.

Send your AFE air intake back. It is a known issue with pretty much ALL aftermarket air intakes for the 6.4L recently built by Ford.

The P2002 is directly attributed to the air intake change. The newer ford calibrations have a more stringent threshold for that parameter and for some reason the aftermarket air intakes are triggering the engine light.

This is not really the air intake company's fault. Ford narrowed the parameter threshold in the newer calibrations to trip a check engine light easier. The earlier 2008 trucks that were used to test and develop the parts by these intake companies did not have and do not have this issue. It is not caused by the Predator.

Just to be sure, take the AFE intake off, re-install the stock air intake (make sure you have no vacuum leaks after the swap), and use the predator to clear the trouble codes and check engine light. The light should not come back again

P2002 - Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

Description: The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the efficiency of the diesel particulate filter for a concern. The efficiency of the filter is determined by the amount of restriction in the filter for a certain exhaust flow rate. The diesel particulate filter is preconditioned for 5,000 km (3,107 miles) before the PCM begins to monitor the level of restriction. The test fails when the measured level of restriction is less than the expected level calculated by the PCM.

Possible Causes: Dirty air cleaner element
Recent manual or thorough diesel particulate filter regeneration
Aftermarket accessories and performance modifications Modified tailpipe
Exhaust leaks before or near the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor
Leaks in the diesel particulate filter pressure sensor connecting hose,
Damaged diesel particulate filter

Diagnostic Aids: Check for leaks in the exhaust system. Check for aftermarket exhaust accessories and performance modifications that decrease the exhaust restriction. If a new diesel particulate filter was recently installed, verify the diesel particulate filter parameter reset procedure was carried out.

Did this code come up after a regen cycle?

Cole, we have had numerous customers of newer production Ford trucks and even Airaid admits that the P2002 code is caused by the air intake. We have also had this issue with AFE and other brands on newer trucks. By process elimination, it is being caused by the air intake on newer 6.4L calid's, not the older ones used for development by the intake companies.

When the customers put on the stock air intake, (without cleaning the anything else), the code is then cleared and doesnt come back on. This is with trucks with a magnaflow exhaust (DPF back) and tuning device. Neither the tuning device, nor the exhaust are causing this. It is solely being caused by a calibration change on newer trucks with aftermarket intake. Otherwise, with aftermarket intake installed, the P2002 error would be triggered every 100 miles or so after being cleared.

We are going to get the CAI kits in and repeat this on a vehicle in house and what kind of calibrations we can come up with.
