Here we are again and fall is upon us and i was hoping that we could visit the issue of the High Idle Surge in the colder temps. Just to briefly describe the issue again, it is when the temps are colder than -5C and the truck comes up on high idle after 2 minutes. The factory settings have the truck create misfires by random cut outs to the fuel solenoid (or so i have been told) this is done to help the engine warm up faster. There is a slight idle surge without the programmer, but once you download any tune the truck surge becomes amplified. I really would like to keep the programmer installed this winter, and i know i am not the only one with this problem in the colder climates. I ask again, will you get this resolved. If you have to get a reefer trailer and park the truck in it to simulate the colder temps and get some testing done then do it. I really like the programmer and would hate to go another winter without it. The truck again is a 2007 Ram 2500, 5.9L

Does anyone have the same problem ? Why is it that there is no moderation on this forum anymore. I have been extremely patient and now i am ready to give up. Can someone offer any input in this matter, or has everyone with this problem given up.

I have the same type of problem, only I run the 7130 on a 05. I know its getting cold here now and will be real cold soon. It sounds bad and can't be good for the engine, also kinda embarassing to hear the truck run like that. Does not do it with manual high idle which is about 100rpm higher if I remember right.

If anyone else has this issue they need to speak out or we will never get this issue resolved. I am sure by now someone from Diablosport has read this post, how about an update here. I know everyone is extremely busy i deal with it everyday, but it doesn't change the fact there is a problem with the rpogrammer that needs to be resolved. Come on guys we need some feed back!

Errr, not entirely sure how to handle this at this point, besides the fact that we are swamped, it is difficult for us to replicate the issue in order to fix it.
I might get some spare time to take a look at it. Thats all i can really say for now. I know thats not what you want to hear but that is the truth.

It's now getting below freezing at night and it would be nice if this could get looked at once again. If anyone has ideas on how to trick the computer into thinking its cold out could you please post them. It would be nice if the problem could be duplicated so we can get this resolved once and for all.

cut the wire going to the tstat, that will trik the engine to thinking its cold,i did it on my 04 and i actually ran a switch to it and i use it as a manual high idle, when i flip the switch my engine temp goes to 0 and the auto high idle comes on right away, then i flik the switch again and the temps go back and the auto idle goes down maybe that would work in helpin out

how about it Johan, have you tried the suggestion from duallydave? Are you able to override the factory warm up feature and just have the engine come up on high idle? An update would be nice since this is a genuine problem that truly does affect the useage of the tuner in colder climates.

Have not had a chance to look at this at all to be honest, Hemi truck tool has been consuming most of my time lately, getting pretty sick of these hemi trucks quite frankly

Made a joke once about Diablo being in Boca and it won't get cold enough there to test this. I was wrong. It was in the 40's this morning in S. Florida and for the second time this week it surged when I started it up. This will continue until the vehicle begins to warm up. Tomorrow, Thursday, it will be in the 40's again and I know can expect the same result. For the people in colder climes I feel for you.
This is a problem and needs to be addressed.

I would like to know exactly what mods other than the predator you have installed. The reason being that my 06 never surges with the predator, I have it set on econo/perf and ran it in tow alot. It was 28 degrees this morning in ga and it started right up and ran smooth. I dont even use the idle up feature. Have you changed your fuel filter ? Becarefull what you put in the tank too, one tank of biodiesel (either by you or the station) will wreak havok for months on your fuel system. If your filter has strands of gel material on it then thats probably causing the poor running.

Tiger this problem shows up the worst when the truck goes into high idle by itself. With my truck it will go into high idle and idle quite nicely for a bit, then it will slowly degrade so it sounds pretty bad. It really does not sound healthy for the engine. If I run the high idle with the cruise which actually idles about 100-200rpm higher, then its no problem.
you are also running a different tool with your 06 then we are with our trucks. this is definatly related to the tuner when on factory tune I have no idle issues. But that ain't going to happen, I enjoy having the programs in to much.

Are you in an 05 or 07 5.9 CTD? On an 07, you may want to check your EGR valve. They are a big hassle and stick alot. Thats why I bought an 06. Hope that helps.
