Old Predator U7158 data logging/streaming

Post by 03svtf150 »

Sticker says: Lightning
8r10
2003 F150 Lightning

I originally purchased my predator from Johnny Lightning Performance in late 2003 I believe when they were first released. Never really tried anything other than loading tunes until now. I'm trying to get a data log to my tuner of the starter tune he sent me for a 6# pulley and ba2400 maf. He has requested a log of...

Short term fuel trims for both banks
MAF Counts
Load
Engine RPM
Throttle absolute position
Spark advance
Vehicle speed
Front 02 sensor voltages

Using the predator only I don't seem to be able to select all of these pids since they are not all in 1 group. Backing out of the "acceleration wot" group I get prompted to log or not. Yes begins the log without the other pids I need, no gets me back to list of pid groups. If I then select another group only the shared pids in these groups remain selected and I still can't log all the above at once. Should I be able to log all 10 of these pids at the same time?

So now I try streaming live to a laptop. Data viewer is a no go for streaming with U7158 and my predator will only take up to 8r10 rev. although it still opens my logs. CMR_DAT 102 and 200 w/chart control fix both seem to work while streaming live for 2-3 min. but when I go back and view the logs 2-3 min logs zip by in 20-30 sec. When disconnected from the vehicle version 102 reports "selected pid not in list" on all pids and displays 0 data. What should my predator be capable of and with what version of what software? I'm lost need help please. Live stream log at idle attached.

Thanks
JJ

If you open the file with the DataViewer you can view all your parameters.

Download the logs with CMR_DAT, save them, then view them with the DataViewer.

The log attached above was a live stream to pc that should have been 2-3 min~ long. Even when viewed with dataviewer it's only 28 sec. Converted to a csv file and looking at the time stamps indicates an issue I believe. I see 11ms between each time stamp. Thats 90 data points per second....WOW! At first I thought I was only getting part of the stream. Now I'm thinking the time format is off somewhere. Live streaming seems to be real close to working except for this so I have to believe I should have this capability yes? If not I'm ok logging with the predator and then download to pc if you can tell me how to log all of the pids above at the same time.

If the time stamps appear off in both CMR_DAT and the DataViewer then the problem is with the data coming off the tool. I need to ask kevmac about this, but he is out today.

When logged with the tool and then downloaded to pc, time stamps seem right. It's only when I stream live to a pc that I have the problem.

Ok, just reinstalled cmr_dat 102. Viewed with this version time stamps are fine, I can even view the data. When I disconnect from my vehicle though, data disappears and pids are reported as not in master pid list or something like that. Looks like a 150 sec. streamed log in cmr_dat 102 becomes a 15 sec. log in both cmr_dat 200 and dataviewer. Should I step back to 8r9 firmware?

I hope this info helps and maybe kevmac can shed some light.

Thanks

He was out all last week. I bet the problem is with CMR_DAT, but he will have to confirm that. I am SO looking forward to the day that DataViewer can support ALL our tools and we can put CMR_DAT in its grave.

JJ, after reading through all these posts I don't feel I have anything add that will help you. I use the new dataviewer as much as possible. I only use the old version to upload logs from old revision Predators. I always found the old DatViewer to have issues with the live streaming. It is very hit or miss depending on many factors such as which version of windows, what type of com cable, part#, revision etc.. I suggest logging as many parameters as possible and uploading the file to the new dataviewer to view it. Depending on what your tuner is trying to do you may not need all those params you have listed above...

I'll have to talk to my tuner and see what he says. XP sp3, usb serial converter w/prolific driver same setup I use to update firmware, download logs and upload custom tunes to and from the tool. I have no reason to believe that I should need something different for streaming. I can't believe I'm the first to ever have this issue. Was there not a point in time with a certain combination of firmware and software that streaming worked with the u7158? Or is this just because I have an old one? Although even the photo copied manual, REV. November-17-2003, that came with my Predator discusses "REAL TIME STREAMING"=View real time data on PC. If I were to by a u7158 Predator brand new today would I still not have this funtionality? It just seems so close to working properly but I guess if it never became a priorty in 5 years it's not going to now. Sorry to vent on you guys but it's frustrating all the time energy and gas I've put in thinking I was doing something wrong. I was really expecting a better outcome than this when I joined your forum. Maybe it's not that big of a deal. We'll see when I talk to my tuner.

Thanks
JJ
