01 T/A A4 Adjustments

I got half of what I wanted by adjusting when it upshifts vs. throttle position, but how do I get it to downshift with less throttle? The thing is, I've got an A4 with 3.73's (worth the $ by the way) and some hilly terain in southern OH, so I end up going up a steep hill at 30mph in third.So I keep giving it more and more throttle until it pretty far down there and BOOM shift in to second at about 70% throttle and the rear breaks loose. Now I could shift it manually into second but it gets annoying after a while. I'm really familiar with cars (from reading plugs to understanding flame kernel developement) so i'm really looking for some specific adjustments needed. Thanks for any feedback!
