I am hoping for some computer nerds who can tell me the pin layout for the usb to serial connector. Call me cheap (yes) but I used to make own serial cables back before usb (yes, I am old) and still have the parts and pieces.
based on the usb red, white, green, black I will take a guess but I need some confirmation on this.
To the 9 pin male => red (1) white (2) green (3) black (5) ???
Confirm, deny???

RE: Re: RE: usb to serial cable
Googled it before I posted it here. I am not as lazy as some of the mods. I figure it's their baby and no one should know the product better than them.
I'm older and have been around the block with writing software since DOS. Last time I worked in the industry I worked for a company that wrote access control software using anything from DOS, Unix, to Windows XP. If you have been on a cruise in the last 5-7 years then chances are you have used our hardware and software.
The difference then, I guess, is that we knew our product inside and out software and hardware. The only way to test the system was to make our own cables. Different hardware required different cables. There was no usb at the time we first created the system so it was important to understand serial cables.
I imagine now because you can by one from radio shack you don't really need to understand how it works. Is that right Diablo???
If it sounds like I am slamming the mods or the company it's because I am! No one should know their equipment better than they should.
If you are going to use a tuner with a (now) primitive form factor like a serial cable input you should be able to answer the question in your sleep.
It will, by the way, work serial to serial. So until they answer easy questions or update the tuners form I will remain completely unrepentant.
I do enjoy the product, mostly because I am too broke to afford a better one, but come on...........

RE: Re: RE: usb to serial cable
was there a "thank you" in there somewhere, or did you just go and do the smart thing and buy the stuff from radio shack for $15...??
I don't get it...

Sent you your thank you.
Thanks to Kmac1 for his help in providing the obvious answer.

RE: Re: RE: usb to serial cable
Cable is $30 at radio shack but alas I am a small business owner in a cruddy economy with mouths to feed.
Why buy the cable when you can make it yourself??? I've got a shop full of the odds and ends necessary.
I bought the tuner for $150 incl shipping off of a diesel truck web site. Thing was only 3 months old and have the paperwork to prove it. I bought it for the possibility of better fuel economy and was unaware of the support level.
Jury is still out on the mileage but I am not saying it's a bad product, just disappointed on the support. 1st try and drew over 40 blank stares.
I have no interest in some of the heavy duty tunes yet as my transmission will not take it but I am thinking of stacking in the future. With the cable and the knowing what your doing, you can have a look at whats going on. I have the time to try and reverse engineer.
Used pucks sell for less than $100. Can't beat that.

Stock Ram, All I'm trying to do is put you on the fast track to your answer since I saw nobody replied in a few days. I didn't know you already googled it. We sell and recommend certain cables to use with our product for the same reason you used certain cables with your hardware. We've tested them and know they work. This avoids a lot of aggravating issues for customers like you when we can get them up and running quick and easy. But hey, if you can build it for free and it works, that's great too. Stay tuned as we have some new stuff coming that doesn't use a serial connection...
