Trying to update 7170

Post by dirtyjoe »

Tried to update my 7170,I got a message that could not use the update file u7170_ford_7_3-9r03 for my version of the 7170. Now I have a message on my 7170, when I power it up, that says "This pstroke73 tool requires a CROM file before use". I believe the original CROM file was deleted during my attempt to update my 7170. What can I do to correct this problem ?

Your programmer has the smaller memory as mine did.If you look on page 2,,,there is help question titled "need some u7170 help"open that one up.then scroll down to the 7r19dz file..download that and install it.It is for the smaller memory programmer.OR you can submit a request for an rma # ,as I did and pay $99.00 and upgrade to the larger memory.Doing so,will allow you to update your programmer with the larger files and alot more options. There is a sticky at the top of page 1 entitled u7170 hardware upgrade program in place.Check it out..its just an option.Hope this helps to get you going.

the 7r19dz file..download that and install it
I tried this whith the same results "Cannot load ford_7_3 application into pstroke73 tool".-- I was trying to update, to correct the problem I have had when running any other tune than the "Tow Setting". I experience a very hard starting condition when cold, loping at idle, and stalling at stops. The wife was not pleased with these conditions. Has anyone else had similiar results?

The file that I posted in the reply seemed to have been the incorrect one.I tried to email him the one that I had stored on my laptop for the pstroke and it still wouldnt correct the issue.Maybe the guys in the shop will be able to assist you and get you back running.

UPDATE: I decided to try again to download the file "ford_7_3-7r19dZ_for_pstroke73" that jbeast10 e-mailed me, and it worked ! I believe that I selected the incorrect file during the previous update process. So thanks again to jbeasts10.
