ExtremePuck and P0087 and P0191 DTCs??

I have an 2008 Ford PSD 6.4 with the Predator (r9.04) and ExtremePuck stack. I can consistently get the P0087 code (low fuel pressure) with the puck dial at max and hard acceleration and/or heavy loads on grades. When I clear the codes and put the dial on min, all is well. I have seen this in Economy, Performance and Extreme tunes (never used Towing). Once during the Economy tune and towing up a decent grade, I got P0087, P0191 and an unknown code.

Any thoughts first on why I would get these and second, what are the risks to the components? Only under prolonged accel/load will it eventually trigger the check engine light.

While you wait on a response, is there any combination of settings that does not trigger check engine codes? I am considering stacking because I am not thrilled with the Predator by itself. Thanks, John

Brian just posted elsewhere that the Extreme (160hp) and puck at 50% is his preference. I have seen I think Mike say Extreme with the puck just slightly backed off of max, but I don't know why for any of those suggestions...

We actually tested this combo here yesterday.

I found that with the puck up to about 2/3 power made the truck run like a scalded dog.
Going all the way on the puck did cause an issue when stacking it with the hot tunes, we did not try the lower level tunes.

We're going to go through and see if we need to make some changes to the tunes to work better with the pucks.

Thanks

Cool! I just tested that configuration and I have yet to encounter the P0087 error code. Is the max setting on the dial perhaps commanding more pressure than what is actual (cuz the relief valve limiting it) and that is what throws the code??

Gents,

What are the recommended settings on both the Predator and Extreme Puck for a non-modified truck (i.e. stock exhaust/intake)? I do tow 8K on a occasion, but mostly convert diesel to noise around town.

Thanks,
John

From what I have pieced together here and there, it seems that 4" exhaust or more is recommended for Performance or Extreme tunes tho I am sure the Performance is OK if you have a gauge to watch your EGT and you keep it short and cool. As for the Puck, I was able to get the P0087 codes with it on max even in Economy so I think the best setting there is at 2/3 in any tune until that is improved.

Since you tow 8K#, Economy tune and 2/3s dial on the Puck seems right!

I wouldn't tow with 8K behind you and the puck on 2/3s especially without intake or exhaust and no EGT gauge... that's really pushing it.

"I can consistently get the P0087 code (low fuel pressure) with the puck dial at max and hard acceleration and/or heavy loads on grades."

This is a sign........ If you are going to push that much power by over fueling with the Predator and Puck then you can look to your fuel pump. It probably can't hang with the requirements. Maybe your next upgrade should be a hi pref fuel pump. Next will probably be some new heavy bolts for your heads before you blow the gasket.

It's never ending.
