Poor Fuel mileage

Post by rfoker »

I installed the Prdator in my 2008 Dodge Ram QC 4x4. I installed the 91oct tune. I have actually put in 93oct since day 1, so no isues there. I have been getting a consistent readout of less than 11mpg. If I'm super easy, I'll get 13-14mpg on the highway. I uninstalled and returned the truck back to stock and seen no less than 12mpg city and was able to get 16 consistently on the highway.
Why do I get worse mileage? I thought this was suppose to actually help 1-2mpg depending or atleast remain the same. My foot hasn't been any heavier? Will installing the 89tune yield better results?

Have you tried actually calculating the mileage, as the readouts are notoriously inaccurate.

Not trying to argue but why the difference in in the overhead readout w/predator and without? Does the tune change things enough to confuse the computer and send an even different calculation to the overhead? I am not getting any worse mipg's but I'm also not getting any better either (which is ok - again not complaining)....

They're normally off to start with... depending on how they're calculated the added airflow most of the time has the largest affect on them...

Well, I was hoping mine was inaccurate since it was only reading 11.4 mpg out of my last tank. I went 200 miles and still had almost a 1/4 tank left when I filled up yesterday. Now I wish that it was accurate. The math showed that it only got 9.4mpg!!!!

Damn, that is pretty bad. I only have a 5 mile commute and half of that it up a pretty steep hill. Also, it has been in the low 30's and high 20's here in the morning and it doesn't even reach operating temp until I pull into the parking lot at work. I have also been doing a lot of WOT stuff testing out the Diablo. Still, that is pretty bad.

My mileage has skyrocketed recently. Was getting about 7.5mpg, did the heads, cam, headers and a tune from Johan and now I'm up over 10mpg! Who'd have though that more power and better mileage could go hand in hand?

I've always believed that if you make the motor run more efficent (which always equates to more power), that you will get better MPG's....

Even if the readout is wrong which I already anticipated. Then it will be worng with or without the predator installed right? I ran the tank halfway and yes I did calculate the mileage. I then filled the tank back up at the same place using the same grade and ran it down about halfway, then I refueled so I could get the exact amount of gas burned. I calculated it out and got far worse mileage with the predator than the factory tune.

*****UPDATE*****

I filled my tank with 93 octane from a different station and have not used my car starter for an entire tank. Which makes a big difference. Froze my ballz off every morning, but I wanted normal results. But luckily I drove my truck more than usual so it only lasted for 4 days. Anyways, I averaged 16mpg in 4wd mode on sloppy roads for mixed travelling. Outstanding! The truck never left 4x4 mode the entire tank. I haven't seen those number except in 2wd on the highway.
Another thing, the overhead computer was dead acccurate when I did the caluclation off the new fuel receipt to get my mileage.

I have a 2008 Dodge Ram QC 4x4 with a 5.7L
Cooper Zeon LTZ 20" tires with factory 3:92 gears
K&N air filter in stock air box
Magnaflow Catback

That's all for items that will efect fuel mileage

mileage

:D I have had my Predator since 07/01/08. I own a 2006 Chrysler SRT-8. General mileage is 18.5+/-05. I check it from oil change to oil change. Last week I drove to visit my son. 150 miles each way on I95. I am 2,000 miles into my 3,000 mile oil change. Driving 75 mph +/- 5 I am currently averageing 21.5 mpg. I have no complants.

I'll bet that the overhead was not accurate for me because there were so many WOT runs on that tank. The computer probably doesn't know what to do when the mileage goes from miles per gallon to gallons per mile. LOL!! I am trying to keep my foot out of it for this tank and since I am off work I don't have the short commute. I am half way through the tank and I am at 15mpg on the overhead. This is with MDS off and no WOT stuff. Well, I was pretty close to WOT on the on ramp. I also have some highway miles on this one.
