Hi guys, I'm stuck between getting a custom tune or a predator on my 2006 VortecMax 4x4 CCSB. I'm aware that the predator does not interface with the TCM, but what exactly is it able to do in the PCM with regards to torque management? Is it able to remove the 4 second delay?
I really like the ability of restoring it to factory in case it needs to go to the dealer (still have 4 years warranty on my truck) so I'm just wondering what I'm able to do.
Sorry if I'm beating this topic to death but I've done a lot of reading and not found what I want to know.
Thanks a million for any information.
Nick

Yes, 4 sec delay is removed. The predator does not have TCM support.
However, transmission behavior is manipulated by the predator tune as far as whatever is controlled in the ECM. Overall, the shifting gets very crisp. In a truck, IMHO, TM should be left alone anyway.
There are things like spark retard at shift, etc., that the predator optimizes so you get better shifts.

Frank, this is an 06, classic truck, which has full and complete TCM support.
Only 07.5 and up trucks do not have TCM support.
Nick, you can do about anything you want to your TCM through the Predator, and even more through custom tuning.
You'll eliminate the PE delay and have the option to completely remove all TM if you desire.
Thanks

well....I think I may have just made my decision. I'm going to double check prices at the local dealer here, as well as the guy that does westers tunes and I'll know for sure.
Thanks a million.

Don't go Westers. I'm in his area of the world and he has a CRAP reputation around here (NO customer service, poor tunes). It would be that much easier for him to dodge you, being that you are an internet purchase.

I'm also from the area and would have to agree.
I've stopped in several times and have not been impressed.
Service is pretty bad.
He seems to be maybe too busy.
Does not have time to talk about the tunes at all.
Maybe if you booked the truck in on the dyno then it would get better but in all honesty I cannot recommend Wester's!!

thanks for the heads up....my only reason for considering westers is that there's a local dealer here for it. After considering the ability to go back to stock for dealer visits as well as the fun of doing it all myself if I choose to

I think I will be going with the predator
now I've just got to pass my journeyman's exam on wednesday...as long as I pass, the predator is my gift to me .... haha...pretty lame i know

Your 06 should have full control over the transmission and torque management.
