F250 and Predator not friends

Post by Cyno »

I have a 2004 PS 6.0 F250 Automatic. I also bought a Predator u7165 about 9-12 months after I bough the truck new in 2004 (now upgraded to u7165_pcm_6_0-8r13.crom) . The list of motor problems I've had is lengthy, and I've been stranded and towed multiple times. I've had the turbo replaced, the EGR and valve replaced 2x, all the fuel injectors replaced, the head gaskets replaced, etc.

All these pressure related problems seem to happen when I'm running the Predator, which I almost always run in the middle econo-tune. Each time I get the truck back from expensive repairs, I'm gun shy about putting a tune in and it runs ok(albeit sluggish in comparison). Then I get my nerve up and install the eco tune again, and not long after I'm getting towed again.

So I've decided to not install the Predator again and run the truck stock for a while and see how it goes. I don't tow anything, my truck is a grocery getter, a vehicle I bought because I liked the body styling, and because I like to drive trucks. So other than occassionally passing traffic a little hard, I don't even abuse it with the Predator installed, I mostly just like the extra responsiveness at the low end for city driving.

Has anyone else had as many problems as I have? I'm wondering if I should bother keeping either the truck or the predator for the long haul. For the #1 truck in America, mine has been the most problematic vehicle I've ever owned. (But I do love that Diesel sound!)

Also, is it possible that the extra pressure could in any way affect losing 2 EGR coolers and EGR valves?

Wow! I'm sorry to say, but that truck sounds like a bad egg... or the dealer is just taking you for a ride.. either way.

I think the only way to fix the egr cooler problem is to buy a delete kit.....it will set you back about 5-600$ just for the kit but I think it is worth it in the long run , also a failed egr cooler can cause your head gaskets to blow.
I just did the head gaskets in my 6.0L so I had them (ford) do the studs and egr delete.

I dont notice much if any boost increase when I have my tuner turned up but I only run a stock boost gauge.
06 F350,SB intake,4" turbo back AFE exhaust,predator,head studs,egr cooler delete.

My good friend is a Ford certified Diesel tech and says that alot of the issues with the 6.0 are caused by misdiagnosed issues by non educated dealers. Do yourself a favor and find a good diesel tech and stop messing with this place.
