Wow...

Post by WongBob »

Just tuned the 7192 on my 06 4.8 and all I can say is WOW. The gain was more than I expected. I havent been on any long drives so I havent been able to dial in the fuel trims, but right off the bat this thing came alive. I also figured out that in no way, shape, form, or fashion does the performance tune work with 87 octane. Good thing my light was on and I was going to fill up anyway! Man I bumped the idle with the a/c on and it is freezing me out now!

Here's what I did:
Spark Advance +8 on both
Fuel Trim +8 on both
Rev Limit 6000
Shift Points 5900(6000 wouldnt work at WOT it would not shift out)
Shift Pressures +15%
Injector Pulse Width +5%
All TQ/Man. Off

Kinda forgot the rest, but I am extremely happy so far. Any other suggestions?

Soon to come:
S&B Intake
LPParts Longtubes & 3" Y into Magnaflow Muffler w/ dump

How will I tune for those?

If you haven't dialed in LTFTs and you've made all those changes, that's not a good idea. Making blind changes without know what your motor needs could end up hurting it. I'd rest ALL those parameters back to original settings and start logging first. You don't want to blow up things.

Well I cant do logging with mine... guess its an old version. After a 30 mile cruise and then a 10 mile @ 2000-2100rpm. The ltft's are 4.25 and 4.79. So I take it it needs a bit more fuel, correct? Running a hair lean and compensating by adding that much? Suggestions to bring it down toward zero?

Just tuned it after that trip. On the way back LTFT's were between 0 and 1.56. Cruise on at 2000RPM +/- 10 by the data. I dropped the injector slope down to +1%, upped the fuel trims a good bit(somewhere in the +15-18 range), and upped the timing to +11. Disconnected the battery for a minute and took it out for a bit. Runs a hair better than before.

What can I do about the delay in the 1-2 shift? Feels like its dropping throttle for a split second at times, just stops pulling barely enough to notice. Maybe drop the shifts to 5800?(thinking it may be bumping the rev limiter as it is shifting) Its set at 5900 now. Sometimes it will shift great, but sometimes it does that. I know if its set at 6k with the rev limiter at 6k it wont shift at all. Thing will just go into an idle like state at 6000 rpm. That cant be good haha.

well, you're asking for big trouble by just jackin' everything up like that, especially the timing...

and if your long term fuel trims are up in the +15 range, you're running way too lean!

get some good numbers man... you want your LTFT's to be between 0 to -2....

here's info on how to drive properly to see what your LTFT's are at:

http://diablosport.com/index.php?name=P ... opic&t=917

you can't save logs as we know, but you can watch the data live on the screen while you drive...

see what the ltft's are reading when you're driving steady at about 2000 rpm on the highway...

you need to go the opposite way on slope adjustment compared to your ltft readings...

for example, if your average ltft's are at +6.xx, then you need to adjust your injector slope to -6%...

and after making an injector slope adjustment, you need to drive for about 50 miles to let the new setting get relearned by the PCM... if you try to check the data again right after the adjustment, the numbers won't be correct, because the new setting hasn't even gotten relearned and settled in by the PCM yet..

This is what is confusing about what you are saying "dropped the injector slope to +1". Dropping is minus in my books. The next part is talking about upping the trims. Which direction did you go, plus or minus? As well you should only make one adjustment at a time, especially when you are playing with the fuel and timing. You can do some REAL serious damage to you motor with the wrong adjustments. Part throttle fuel (LTFTs) should be the first to get adjusted, then work on the WOT fueling (PE), then work on timing.
