setting tire size

If I have factory 20 inch rims on my vehicle, but turn the tire setting to the lowest possible tire size, could it have any negative effect on my vehicle? I thought this could help my resale value by cheating the miles. And would a dealership know if i altered the tire settings?

If you have stock size tires do not change the tire size setting, what you are seeing is simply a default value.
